Besides the pleasure of knowing the most beautiful women in the world one of the things I love about my life is traveling!

I travel by plane and helicopter. I use the car for short trips and I recently discovered the pleasure of travelling on the Frecciarossa…

The Frecciarossa is a high-speed train that reaches 360 Km/h. This allows me to go from Florence to Milan in only an hour and 45 minutes!

The journey is extremely comfortable and the train has several advantages.

One advantage is that it allows me to use the computer comfortably. The current laptops have highly advanced graphics capabilities. I can view and edit the graphic compositions of my prints and play with shapes and colours.

I can also browse my extensive photo archive. It is one of my sources of inspiration, a think tank full of images. Those are the pictures taken over the years on my travels around the world.

An hour and forty-five minutes fly away in a moment. We are already in Bologna and from here the landscape suddenly changes. We leave the flat and abundantly fertile Po Valley to venture into the long dark tunnels crossing the Tosco / Emiliano Apennines. There is always a light at the end of these tunnels. That light is Florence!

And then suddenly I recall my intrepid travel by car, a Fiat 500, blue with red seats, in which I drove, manual shift, up and down through the gears, from Florence to Como through the Apennines in an endless series of switchbacks and hairpins turns, before the highway had been completed!

I was young and the desire to carve out a corner in the fantastic world of Fashion was one of my great aspirations…

Oltre al piacere di conoscere le più belle donne del mondo una delle cose che adoro nella mia vita è viaggiare!

Viaggio principalmente in aereo e in elicottero. Uso l’auto per i brevi spostamenti e recentemente ho scoperto il piacere di viaggiare con il Frecciarossa…

Il Frecciarossa è un treno ad alta velocità che raggiunge i 360 Km/ora e che mi permette di andare da Firenze a Milano in un’ora e 45 minuti!

Il viaggio è veramente confortevole e poi il treno ha diversi vantaggi rispetto ad altri mezzi.

Uno dei vantaggi è che mi permette di usare comodamente il computer. Gli attuali computer portatili hanno delle capacità grafiche molto avanzate e posso visualizzare e modificare le composizioni grafiche delle mie stampe.

Inoltre posso consultare il mio vasto archivio fotografico, la mia fucina d’idee con le foto scattate nel corso degli anni nei miei viaggi in giro per il mondo.

Un’ora e quarantacinque minuti volano via in un attimo, siamo già a Bologna e da qui in poi il paesaggio esterno improvvisamente si modifica. Lasciamo la pianeggiante e abbondantemente fertile Pianura Padana per avventurarci nelle lunghe e buie gallerie che attraversano l’appennino Tosco/Emiliano. Ma c’è sempre la luce alla fine di queste interminabili gallerie. Quella luce è Firenze!

Ed ecco che all’improvviso mi tornano in mente i miei intrepidi viaggi in auto, una Fiat 500, blu con i sedili rossi, con cui mi spostavo da Firenze a Como attraversando l’appennino in una serie interminabile di tornanti scalando continuamente di marcia, l’autostrada non era ancora stata completata!

Ero giovane e la voglia di ritagliarmi un angolo nel fantastico mondo della moda era una delle mie grandi aspirazioni…

I returned to Florence, where I found a pleasant surprise, the Summer is already here!

After the Spring, awakening nature is now preparing to embrace the Summer season by wearing the most beautiful colours. The sun is higher in the Heavens and so the shadows have changed and now colours are strong, saturated. A symphony of colours to celebrate the rebirth of life…

I remember when I was a child discovering the fireflies, beautiful and silent as only dreams and wishes can be. Fireflies lit the summer nights in the fields surrounding the house of my grandfather in via Maragliano, they are a part of the magic of nature.

As a young man I remember that in the Summer we spent more time outside, the days were longer and after hours spent talking while sitting on the “muretti” – those low walls you can find in the outskirt of cities – we spread out in search of more romantic places to withdraw with our girlfriends. The lucky ones, the ones who owned a car, were presented with more opportunities than those who went on foot. Even Vespas and Lambrettas helped us get away from prying eyes, to be able to find a little privacy somewhere. We would then accompany the girls home just in time for the ten o’clock curfew. That was the canonical time a girl had to be home in those days.

Summer is my favourite season… the explosion of colours .. outdoor living… the sea… a continuous inspiration! I like to transfer these emotions to my clothes, to my prints. The Summer’s gift to us is the joy of living!

I am always in constant quest of the Summer and, when work allows me, I like to take a short break and spend time in those corners of our planet where the Summer has already arrived!

377. Estate, Natura, i suoi Colori, i suoi Profumi…

Sono rientrato a Firenze dove ho trovato una piacevole sorpresa, qui è già estate!

Dopo il risveglio primaverile la natura si prepara ora ad affrontare la stagione estiva vestendosi con i colori più belli. Le tonalità sono cambiate e ora sono quelle dei colori forti, saturi. Una sinfonia di colori per festeggiare la rinascita della vita…

Mi ricordo quando ero ancora un bambino la scoperta delle lucciole, fantastiche e silenziose come solo i sogni e i desideri sanno essere. Le lucciole illuminavano le notti estive nei campi circostanti la casa del nonno in via Maragliano, una delle tante magie della natura.

Da ragazzo ricordo che in estate si stava fuori di più, le giornate erano più lunghe e dopo ore passate a parlare sui “muretti” ci si sparpagliava alla ricerca del luogo più romantico dove appartarsi con la propria ragazza. I più fortunati, quelli che possedevano la macchina, si presentavano certo con più chance di quelli che andavano a piedi. Anche le Vespe e le Lambrette aiutavano parecchio ad allontanarsi dagli sguardi indiscreti per riuscire a imboscarsi da qualche parte e accompagnare poi le ragazze a casa entro le dieci di sera. Ora canonica per le ragazze dell’epoca.

L’estate è la mia stagione preferita… l’esplosione di colori… vivere all’aperto… il mare… un’ispirazione continua! Mi piace trasferire queste emozioni nei miei abiti, nelle mie stampe. L’estate ci regala la gioia di vivere!

Sono sempre in constante ricerca dell’estate e, quando il lavoro me lo consente, mi concedo una breve vacanza in quegli angoli del nostro pianeta in cui è già arrivata l’estate!

[:en]368. A new look for Michael Jackson…

Michael Jackson had organized a small, private dinner, I would say a very intimate dinner because we were completely alone in the restaurant of one of the most prestigious hotels in Las Vegas, away from prying eyes.

Finally he began to tell me about his desire to usher in a new period of his musical life. A new style to which he wished to give a new look.

He made me realize that he wanted to abandon forever the short jackets, tight pants, white socks with loafers blacks. He had already noticed that I was wearing – as I always do – ankle boots in black suede. Well, that would be a look that he would like. He made me realize that he greatly admired the fantasies of the embroideries we had put on the shiny fabrics of some of our women’s jackets.

So he wanted something that would stand out, a rock-chic-elegance.

We left one another promising to meet again soon and I assured him that I would send some sketches and ideas for his new Michael Jackson look.

From that day we began to talk one another often. He had already accepted some of my proposals and, with the help of my son Daniele, we organized a first meeting in London to show him an exquisitely worked jacket we had designed for him. He was impressed!

His first return to the public would be in London during the “Fashion Rocks”. There was great expectation; the press had given a lot of coverage to his new look and I was part of that great event.

The final examination gown was exciting. Michael was delighted and expressed his approval!

During the concert the audience was screaming his name to the rhythm of the music. Michael continued to dance walking on the stage. The audience reached out to touch him, just to experience the sensation of touching him and his clothes.

Michael took off his jacket, swung it twice over his head and threw it into the screaming audience!

I looked at Daniele’s face. He was shocked! The wonderful “jacket” that had cost so much creative effort had ended up in the hands of a fan who certainly could not possibly imagine what had gone into it!

When Michael returned to the backstage I hugged him, and jokingly expressed my disappointment about the jacket… “Roberto, please, I was very excited… Just make me a new one…!” he said, hugging me again.

The world has lost a great artist and I have lost a friend.

Michael Jackson aveva organizzato una piccola cena, direi molto intima perché eravamo completamente soli, nel ristorante di uno dei più prestigiosi hotel di Las Vegas: un piccolo tavolo in un salottino lontano da occhi indiscreti.

Finalmente cominciò a parlarmi del suo desiderio di inaugurare un nuovo periodo della sua vita musicale. Un nuovo stile al quale avrebbe desiderato dare anche un nuovo look.

Mi fece capire che voleva abbandonare per sempre le giacche corte, i pantaloni attillati, i calzini bianchi con i mocassini neri. Aveva già notato che io portavo – come del resto faccio sempre – stivaletti in camoscio nero; bene, li avrebbe voluti uguali anche lui, e mi fece capire che ammirava molto le fantasie dei ricami di alcune mie giacche femminili su tessuti lucidi.

Insomma desiderava qualcosa di appariscente, un rock-chic-elegante.

Ci lasciammo promettendoci di rivederci presto, e gli assicurai che gli avrei inviato alcuni schizzi e idee-proposta per il nuovo look Michael Jackson!

Da quel giorno cominciammo a sentirci spesso. Aveva già accettato alcune mie proposte, e con l’aiuto di mio figlio Daniele, organizzammo un primo meeting a Londra per una laboriosissima giacca che l’aveva particolarmente colpito!

Il suo primo ritorno in pubblico sarebbe stato a Londra in occasione del “Fashion Rocks”. C’era grande attesa; la stampa aveva dato molto spazio anche al suo nuovo look, e io mi sentivo parte di quel grande evento.

La prova finale dell’abito fu eccitante; Michael era contentissimo e mi dimostrava tutta la sua approvazione e simpatia!

Durante il concerto i ragazzi del pubblico urlavano il suo nome seguendo il ritmo della musica. Michael continuò a ballare camminando sulla passerella. I ragazzi si allungavano per toccarlo, solo per provare la sensazione di sfiorare i suoi abiti.

Michael si tolse la giacca, la fece ruotare due volte sopra la testa e la gettò in mezzo al pubblico in delirio!

Guardai la faccia di Daniele: era scioccato! La meravigliosa “giacca” che c’era costata tanta fatica era finita nelle mani d’un fan che certamente non ne poteva apprezzare e conoscere la storia!

Quando Michael rientrò lo abbracciai, e scherzando gli feci capire il mio disappunto… “Roberto, please, I was very excited… Just make me a new one…!” mi disse, abbracciandomi nuovamente.

Il mondo ha perso un grande artista ed io ho perso un amico.
