191. What Title Would You Give to the Book of My Life?

Someone has already started giving me advice. I would be very pleased if you would give me a hand too…

I have had the ability and imagination to do the writing but now I’m stuck for the title!

Mondadori, the publisher, does not recommend that I use my name for the title. From the beginning I had called the book “MY ADVENTURE”. I have always considered my life an adventure, in a jungle with many wild animals!

“MY LIFE” is too obvious, moreover, it seems to suggest an ordinary life, which it is not! I do not know why, but a series of small but important events have built my life in a way that is different from everybody else’s!

No, I would not go back. I have often wondered how it might have been if my father had not been killed by the German Nazis… Definitely it would have been a more normal life, school… university and possibly a PhD…

I hope not to disappoint my fans… My book is not the story of my road to success. Fashion has been a wonderful experience… in the beginning it was a different way for me to express the desire for the art that was inside me.

Only the last few pages tell how I embarked on the path to success, how I was able to get your esteem as you recognized my work and so YOU ARE IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN MY BOOK!

I have a game for you. Would you help me choose a title for the book?

I will make some suggestions… I would like you say what you like… I am open to new ideas, of course!

191. Che Titolo Dareste al Libro Della Mia Vita?

Qualcuno ha già accennato a darmi qualche consiglio. Mi farebbe un piacere enorme se mi date una mano…

Ho avuto capacità e fantasia nello scrivere ma adesso mi sto arenando per il titolo!

Mondadori non mi consiglia di chiamarlo solo con il mio nome. Fin dall’inizio lo avevo definito come “LA MIA AVVENTURA”. Ho sempre considerato la vita una avventura, in una jungla con tanti animali feroci!

“LA MIA VITA” è troppo banale, inoltre, sembrerebbe una vita comune, non lo è! Non so il perché, ma è stata un susseguirsi di piccoli grandi eventi che hanno costruito la mia vita in maniera diversa da chiunque altro!

No, non tornerei indietro. Mi sono spesso chiesto come sarebbe stata se mio padre non fosse stato ucciso dai nazisti tedeschi… Decisamente sarebbe stata una vita più normale, scuola… università e dottorato!

Spero di non deludere i miei fans… Il mio libro non è la storia della mia scalata al successo. La moda è stata una meravigliosa esperienza… l’inizio è stato una diversa maniera di presentare la voglia di arte che c’era dentro di me.

Solo le ultime pagine raccontano di come ho intrapreso la via del vero successo, come sono riuscito a farmi stimare da voi e quindi VOI SIETE IMPORTANTI PERSONAGGI DEL MIO LIBRO!

189. Casting… Fitting… Show!

The casting was the most fun part before my Fashion Show, the exam when everybody will judge what I have created…

From the very beginning, which is the selection of the models, I am dedicated to the Just Cavalli fashion show.

Ardea and the Fashion Show Stylist are usually the ones who select the models. This time I designed the collection, I conceived the show, so I want to choose the models as was my habit fifteen years ago!
I remember a lot of friends and customers congratulated me for both the collection and the models… beautiful and sexy.

Gianni Versace chose his models personally. Many of those models went on to become “Top Models”.

I am dedicated in my casting by a great desire to choose a future “Top Model”. Hundreds of girls, of all nationalities, are waiting patiently for their turn.

Some are badly dressed and with dirty hair… I do not understand why some of the agencies do not teach more professionalism, more personal grooming to these young girls, who are full of dreams but often with little money.

Each one is waiting her own turn… she then approaches Ardea’s desk… along with her Photo Book. I am sitting on a small zebra chair, not far away trying not to show interest!

Ardea look closely at all the photos, analyzes the names of the photographers and, if she consider the model interesting, has her try on one or more dresses. An imperceptible nod of my head is enough to show my interest…

Young… very young, tall… very tall, skinny… very skinny… legs possibly bowlegged… an aquiline nose does not disturb… almost a virtue… makes them become “più speciali”… “più alla moda”!

Every once in awhile I show my approval for a “classica bella ragazza” classically beautiful girl… beautiful long hair, delicate breasts, blue eyes, staggering legs, slightly accentuated derriere… No… no… no… it is not “alla moda”!

“Please Roberto… she has to model… you are not going to bed with her… we cannot be criticized!”

Gianni Versace had the good fortune not to have Ardea… (just kidding!)

Cavalli cannot present a beautiful woman in his own fashion show, otherwise he hears “non alla moda”!

This is Fashion today. We are overwhelmed with gay designers and photographers who do not like sexy women… hence today’s fashion is not for the woman who wants to look beautiful and sexy. Advertising has the upper hand on the personality so that pretty young women want to lose weight to look more like the models in the advertisements…!

This time I adapted to fifty percent, but I promise you that in my next Just Cavalli Fashion Show, next September, I will listen only the values of beauty that I’ve known since I was born!

Il casting era la parte più divertente prima del mio esame Sfilata…

Mi sono dedicato alla sfilata Just Cavalli fin dal primo round, cioè dalla scelta delle modelle.

Normalmente è Ardea insieme con la stylist della sfilata che seleziona le modelle. Questa volta ho disegnato la collezione, ideato la sfilata e voglio scegliere le modelle, com’era mia abitudine quindici anni fa!
Mi ricordo che molti amici e clienti si congratulavano per la collezione e per le modelle… belle e sexy.

Gianni Versace sceglieva personalmente le modelle. Tante delle sue modelle sono poi diventate “Top”.

Mi sono dedicato al mio casting con tanta voglia di scegliere le future “Top”. Centinaia di ragazze, di tutte le nazionalità, aspettano con pazienza il loro turno.

Molte di loro si presentano mal vestite e con i capelli poco puliti… non capisco le agenzie che non insegnano un po’ di professionalità a queste giovani ragazze, piene di sogni ma spesso vuote di soldi.

Ognuna attende il proprio turno e si presenta al desk di Ardea con il Book in mano. Sono seduto su una piccola poltrona zebrata, non molto distante e cerco di non mostrare interesse!

Ardea guarda attentamente tutte le foto, analizza i nomi dei fotografi, e se la giudica la modella interessante le fa indossare uno o più capi. Un piccolo cenno della mia testa è sufficiente a dimostrare il mio interesse…

Giovani… giovanissime, alte… altissime, magre… magrissime… le gambe devono essere possibilmente storte… il naso aquilino non disturba… quasi un pregio… le fa diventare più speciali e più fashion!

Ogni talvolta che mostravo la mia approvazione per una “classica bella ragazza”… bellissimi capelli lunghi, un po’ di seno, occhi azzurri, gambe da capogiro, culino leggermente accentuato… No… no… no… non è fashion!

“Ti prego Roberto… deve sfilare… non ci devi andare a letto… non possiamo farci criticare!”

Gianni Versace aveva la fortuna di non avere Ardea… (sto scherzando!)

La strafiga, Cavalli, non la può presentare in un suo défilé, altrimenti… “no fashion”!

Questa è la moda di oggi. Siamo sopraffatti da stilisti omosessuali e fotografi che non amano la donna sexy… di conseguenza la moda di oggi non è per la donna che desidera apparire bella e sexy. La pubblicità ha il sopravvento sulla personalità e quindi le belle ragazze desiderano dimagrire per apparire… come una modella!

Per questa volta mi sono adeguato al cinquanta per cento, ma vi prometto che nella mia prossima sfilata Just Cavalli, a settembre, ascolterò solo i valori di bellezza che conosco da quando sono nato!

188. My Political Thought…

My political thought? To believe strongly in an idea and fight to support it without compromise, without subterfuge.

Unfortunately this type of behavior belongs to the past!

My idea is that there is a need to create jobs.

Help also those who already have a job, especially those categories that can count only on the minimum income to survive.

If God gives them the joy to have children, that is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately this joy can turn into the worst kind of tragedy as parents struggle, unable to support their children!

We must recover this joy. That is my thought.

188. Il mio pensiero politico…

Il mio pensiero politico? Credere fortemente in un’idea e combattere per sostenerla, senza compromessi, senza sotterfugi.

Purtroppo questo tipo di comportamento fa ormai parte del passato!

La mia idea è che bisogna creare occupazione.

Aiutare anche chi un lavoro l’ha già, specialmente quelle categorie che possono contare solo sullo stretto necessario per vivere.

Se magari Dio dà loro la gioia di avere un figlio in più, che è una cosa meravigliosa, rischia di trasformarsi nel peggior tipo di tragedia poiché non possono farcela a mantenerlo!

Dobbiamo ristabilire questa gioia. Questo è il mio pensiero.
