291. What does it mean to be an Artist?

I grew up in a world of art, everything is art, I have been breathing art since my earliest groans!

Art is creating… is fantasy… is composition … is desire for expression … what everything else is not? I would have liked to have more in-depth knowledge… on everything!

Am I an Artist? What does it mean to be or appear to be an Artist? Too many young people appear to think that if they dress the way they think Artists dress then they are Artist… they take up a way of dressing themselves that sets them apart from others… it is as though they had adopted a new uniform… a dress code to help them demonstrate their level of art… from one to ten, how good am I? Judge it from the way I dress myself… you see this strange way of demonstrating in many fields and activities…

Being an artist means to look at life from different angles. An artist loves what he does. His creations are his life. Earnings are just a sign of others’ appreciation.

Is this right? I don’t know, but all this makes me think, makes me reflect on everything and on nothing. Definitely my way of thinking is always focused between the extreme. “In medio stat virtus” Virtue is in the center. Exaggerations exacerbate the truth!

I love to linger in small ports or in those artistic squares in large cities. The Ponte Vecchio in Florence is full of young Artists. Do you see how I regard them? As Artists. They have no pretensions… they don’t define themselves as Artists, but others define them as such.

They blend on the sidewalk with those illegal vendors of replica bags, backpacks, sunglasses of famous designers. The artist, with a lot less arrogance, occupies a small space… he extract his works from a a little ragged gray folder… made with pencil and soft opaque pastels… “The Collection”…
I like to indulge and look at them… I look at their eyes, their beards, slightly yellowed by the afternoon light… I pay a lot of attention to the type of pencils they use and, for a moment, my thoughts go back in time, perhaps to the only time in my life that made me look or sound like an artist… when I attended the school of Art at Porta Romana in Florence!

In that short period of school you don’t value anything, you are living in a limbo, you have not yet been baptized by someone who judges you… but, that judgment is awaited with anxiety…

291. Che cosa significa essere un Artista?

Sono cresciuto nel pianeta dell’arte, tutto è arte, ho respirato arte fin dai miei primi gemiti!

L’arte è creazione… fantasia… composizione… desiderio di espressione… perché tutto il resto no? La prima cosa che mi salta in testa e che avrei tanto desiderato avere conoscenze più approfondite… su tutto!

Sono un Artista? Che cosa significa essere o apparire Artista? Tanti, troppi giovani si pavoneggiano per apparire Artisti… assumono un modo di vestire che li differenzia da altri come se la divisa, la montura che si sono creati dovesse aiutarli a dimostrare il loro grado di Arte… da uno a dieci, quanto sono bravo? Giudicatelo dal mio vestito… in tanti settori esiste questo strano modo di essere per dimostrare…

Essere artisti significa guardare la vita da angolazioni diverse. Un Artista adora ciò che fa… le sue creazioni sono la sua vita. I guadagni sono solo un segno per conoscere se anche gli altri apprezzano le sue creazioni.

E giusto? Non lo so, ma tutto questo mi fa pensare, riflettere sul troppo e sul niente… Decisamente il mio modo di riflettere è sempre subordinato al centro. “In medio stat virtus” La virtù, la parte più giusta, sta nel centro. Le esagerazioni esasperano la verità!

Mi piace tanto soffermarmi nei piccoli porti di mezza estate o nelle piazzette artistiche delle grandi città. Il Ponte Vecchio a Firenze pullula di giovani Artisti. Avete visto come li ho chiamati? Artisti. Non hanno pretese… non si definiscono Artisti ma sono gli altri a definirli tali.

Si confondono fra la massa venditori abusivi che espongono sui marciapiedi le brutte copie dei grandi stilisti… borse, zainetti, occhiali da sole… L’artista, con tanta meno arroganza, occupa un piccolo spazio… estrae da una cartella grigia, un po’ lacera, le sue opere… realizzate con la matita morbida e i pastelli opachi… “La Collezione”… quanto mi piace soffermarmi e guardare… guardo i loro occhi, le barbe leggermente ingiallite dalla luce del pomeriggio… poso molta attenzione al tipo di matita che viene usata e, per qualche attimo, i miei pensieri vanno indietro nel tempo, forse all’unico momento della mia vita che mi ha fatto apparire o sembrare un Artista… quando frequentavo la scuola d’Arte di Porta Romana!

In quel breve periodo scolastico non dai valore a niente, vivi in un limbo, non sei ancora stato battezzato da qualcuno che ti giudica… ma, quel giudizio lo aspetti con ansia…

Oggi vi invito a giudicare le mie creazioni… fra pochi giorni, il 24 di Giugno, presenterò la nuova Collezione Cavalli Uomo… ma vi lascio nel frattempo con un’altra creazione, la Pre-Collezione Just Cavalli Primavera-Estate 2015…
