[:en]414. Icehotel, Trip to an Enchanted World…

How did you start the New Year? What are your resolutions for 2016?

2016 will be a great year, I’m sure, I can feel it…

I wanted to say goodbye to 2015 and start 2016 in a different way by going to an Enchanted World, a world at 30 degrees below zero…!

Our journey begins with a helicopter transfer from Cavalli Island to the nearby Stockholm airport and then a short flight to the northern tip of Sweden.

The last part of our trip to the Icehotel is by dog sleigh. We are now surrounded by snow, ice and absolute silence. A silence broken only by the sound of the sleigh gliding over the snow…

The cold is absolute but it is a dry cold… almost pleasant! We are equipped with a thermos of mulled wine that helps fortify us against the harsh climate…

The dogs do not show signs of fatigue. Our guide explains that they have incredible strength and stamina despite their small size. Their weight varies from 15 to 30 Kg. They can reach the respectable speed of 45 kph. Sledge dogs have been used by man for the past 3000 years! What fantastic animals…

We arrive at our destination and the landscape that greets us is like a fairy tale… we have arrived in a world sparkling with icy enchantment!!

We enter the long corridor that takes us inside the Icehotel where we are entirely surrounded by ice, from floor to ceiling… the entire Icehotel is a sculpted work of art. The walls, the vault, the statues… the lighting shows off every detail to perfection… an incredible sight made through the fine art of the artists who created it and by nature itself that has transformed the water into a magical material easy to mold into every possible form.

Skillfully placed lighting creates incredible effects thanks to the natural translucency of ice.

In the Spring the Icehotel will melt completely, returning to nature the water borrowed for such a brief season… only to present us next winter with the gift and wonder of ice to be sculpted once again by loving, creative hands into a new Winter Wonderland… a new Icehotel!

Come avete iniziato il Nuovo Anno? Quali sono i vostri buoni propositi per il 2016?

Il 2016 sarà un anno fantastico, ne sono sicuro, lo percepisco…

Ho voluto salutare il 2015 e iniziare il 2016 in un modo diverso, visitando un Mondo Incantato, un mondo a 30 gradi sotto zero…!

Il nostro viaggio inizia con un trasferimento in elicottero da Cavalli Island al vicino aeroporto di Stoccolma per poi raggiungere in aereo la punta nord della Svezia.

L’ultimo parte del nostro viaggio verso l’Icehotel la effettuiamo a bordo di slitte trainate da cani, inoltrandoci sempre di più in un mondo fatto di neve, ghiaccio e un silenzio assoluto, interrotto soltanto dal rumore delle slitte che scivolano sul manto di neve…

Il freddo è assoluto ma è un freddo secco… quasi piacevole! Ci siamo equipaggiati con un thermos di buon vino caldo che ci aiuta a combattere il rigido clima…

I cani non mostrano segni di stanchezza, mi spiegano che hanno una forza incredibile, malgrado le loro ridotte dimensioni, il loro peso varia dai 15 ai 30 Kg. Riescono a raggiungere una velocità di ben 45 Kmh. I cani vengono utilizzati per il traino delle slitte da oltre 3000 anni! Che animali fantastici…

Arriviamo a destinazione e il paesaggio che ci attende è di quelli da fiabe… siamo arrivati in un mondo incantato!

Entriamo nel lungo corridoio che ci porta all’interno dell’Icehotel, siamo interamente circondati dal ghiaccio, dal pavimento al soffitto… tutta la struttura è un opera d’arte. Le pareti, la volta, le statue… ogni dettaglio è perfetto… uno spettacolo incredibile realizzato attraverso la sapiente arte degli artisti che lo hanno creato e dalla natura che ha trasformato l’acqua in un materiale facile da plasmare in ogni forma possibile.

Una accurata illuminazione crea degli effetti incredibili grazie anche alla translucenza naturale del ghiaccio.

A primavera l’Icehotel si scioglierà completamente restituendo alla natura l’acqua presa in prestito… fino al prossimo inverno quando la natura ci donerà ancora una volta il ghiaccio da scolpire e modellare dagli artisti che creeranno così un nuovo Icehotel, una nuova opera d’arte…

This year, as usual, I spent a quiet Sunday decorating the Christmas tree.

This is the first Christmas tree at Cavalli Island and so it is a very, very special Christmas tree!

Since childhood I have always look forward to the Christmas season with a certain amount of trepidation. In those days the gifts were brought by “La Befana” on January 6th and if you had not been good during the year the Befana filled the stocking with coal!

I remember staying up late and waiting until everybody was asleep before going to check the stockings hanging from the fireplace to determine the number of the gifts by how much they bulged…

Traditionally, in Italy the Christmas tree is put up from December 8th until January 6th.

The Christmas tree has ancient traditions and in the past was called a Tree of Paradise creating a magical atmosphere with its lights and decorations.

I like to observe the expressions of joy on my grandchildren’s faces as they look at the Christmas tree… to glimpse the wonder in their eyes and sense their impatience as they wait…

Decorating the Christmas tree is a special tradition at the Cavalli home and every year setting up the Christmas tree is an event at which everyone has his role. The children decorate the lower part of the tree while the adults decorate the upper part up to the tip which is adorned with a ribbon, a star or an angel…

Decorating the Christmas tree is also the moment when you tell stories and anecdotes and everybody has a special Christmas to remember…

This year I will spend part of the holidays in Florence and part at Cavalli Island where the snow has already started to create a Christmas atmosphere…

411. L’Albero di Natale, l’Albero del Paradiso

Come consuetudine anche quest’anno ho passato una tranquilla domenica a decorare l’albero di Natale.

Questo è il primo albero di Natale a Cavalli Island e quindi è un albero di Natale molto, molto speciale!

Fin da bambino ho sempre atteso il periodo natalizio con trepidazione. Allora i regali venivano portati dalla Befana, il sei di Gennaio, e se non eri stato buono durante l’anno la Befana riempiva la calza con del carbone!

Restavo sveglio fino a tardi aspettando che tutti si fossero addormentati per andare a controllare le calze appese al camino e cercare di determinare dal loro volume la quantità dei doni…

Per tradizione in Italia l’albero di Natale viene allestito l’otto dicembre fino al sei gennaio

L’albero di Natale ha tradizioni antichissime e nel passato veniva chiamato l’Albero del Paradiso, con le sue luci e le sue decorazioni crea un’atmosfera magica.

Mi piace osservare l’espressione di gioia dei miei nipotini che contemplano l’albero di Natale… intravedere la meraviglia nei loro sguardi mista all’impazienza dell’attesa…

L’albero di Natale è una tradizione speciale e a casa Cavalli ogni anno allestire l’albero di Natale è un evento in cui ognuno ha il suo ruolo, i più piccoli decorano la parte bassa dell’albero mentre gli adulti decorano la parte più alta fino alla punta che viene adornata con un fiocco, una stella o un angelo…

Ma la decorazione dell’albero di Natale è anche il momento in cui ci si raccontano storie e aneddoti e ognuno ha un Natale particolare da ricordare…

Quest’anno trascorrerò una parte delle feste a Firenze e una parte a Cavalli Island… dove la neve a già iniziato a creare una atmosfera molto natalizia…

I know, I agree with you… a handwritten note, in beautiful calligraphy as once taught in school would be better… but times have changed… Today Tempus Fugit, everything just flies… it all happens in a moment… The Internet has profoundly changed the way we interact, we play, we learn, we stay informed. The important thing is to know how to adapt quickly to the changes, how to be able to follow evolution, as we learn from nature that is continually evolving, adapting to a changing dynamic…

I wish to respond to all the kind birthday wishes that I received electronically… text messages, emails, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… and reply by the same means adapting myself to the changing times.

I would like to answer each message individually but that is not possible given my schedule… you are really so many… but I was very pleased to read your words of love and feel you so close to me… Thank You, Thank You from the bottom of my heart!

Excess is my success… this has always been my motto and this year my birthday was celebrated with a surprise party that I did not expect… it was an excess of affection, love, kind hearts and red roses…

A birthday surrounded by my big family… children, grandchildren, relatives and friends… all around me! For one day I felt myself to be someone truly blessed!

Birthdays remind us of the date of our birth, but we also take account of the years that have passed and we make plans for the future. Those who have already read my book know that my life has been a fantastic adventure… a life full of surprises where I learned that love is the center of our lives around which everything revolves… but what fascinates me the most is the future… a future full of potential, full of projects… and you know me well enough to know that I cannot sit still…!

Lo so, sono d’accordo con voi… un biglietto scritto a mano, in bella calligrafia come si insegnava una volta nelle scuole avrebbe fatto il suo effetto… ma i tempi sono cambiati… Tempus Fugit, oggi tutto scorre così veloce… tutto avviene in un attimo… Internet ha profondamente cambiato il nostro modo di interagire, di imparare, di tenersi informati. L’importante è adeguarsi ai cambiamenti, riuscire a seguire l’evoluzione, come ci insegna la natura che evolve adattandosi all’ambiente che la circonda…

Voglio quindi rispondere a tutti i messaggi di auguri che ho ricevuto per via elettronica… messaggini, emails, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… attraverso il mio Blog, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter e adeguarmi così ai tempi che cambiano.

Vorrei rispondere ad ogni singolo messaggio ma i miei impegni non me lo consentono siete veramente tanti… tantissimi… mi ha fatto molto piacere leggere le vostre parole di affetto e sentirvi così vicini… Grazie, grazie dal profondo del mio cuore!

L’eccesso è il mio successo… questo è da sempre il mio motto e quest’anno ho festeggiato il mio compleanno con una festa a sorpresa che non mi aspettavo… è stato un eccesso di affetto, di amore, di cuoricini e rose rosse…

Un compleanno circondato dalla mia grande famiglia… figli, nipoti, parenti e amici… tutti intorno a me! Per un giorno mi sono sentito una persona importante!

Il giorno del compleanno ci ricorda la data della nostra nascita, ma non solo, ad ogni compleanno ci si ritrova immancabilmente a fare il resoconto degli anni che sono trascorsi e si fanno progetti per il futuro. Per coloro che hanno già letto il mio libro sanno che la mia vita è stata una fantastica avventura… una vita piena di sorprese dove ho imparato che l’amore è il centro della nostra vita intorno a cui tutto ruota… ma quello che mi affascina di più è il futuro… un futuro pieno di progetti… ormai mi conoscete e sapete che non riesco a stare fermo…!
