18. New York is waiting…

New York is waiting. I arrived at the airport in Florence with a lot of luggage and some toys to make the journey less boring, computer, music…

The Captain of my airplane was waiting for me to let me know that a red light, one of the thousands on the instrument panel, warned of a problem with the pressurization.
Shit, this is all I need… I have to be in NYC tonight.
Tomorrow morning at eleven o’clock I have my first meeting with journalists and photographers.
“My dear Captain, tell me what is wrong and put yourself in my shoes. I must go!”
“We have to go to Milan where a mechanic will evaluate the problem”

I am telling you all of this to keep you in the picture! Later on I will let you know the result of the inspection. Don’t worry, if you care for me! (… I hope!)
We arrived in Milan, and were towed into a hangar. After a brief inspection they told us that the cold had created a small problem. Two hours of waiting, and then, finally, we took off!

My Airplane

First stop at Gander in Canada for refueling, my plane does not have sufficient range for a non-stop flight to NY, that sucks! I was finally able to close my eyes!
Take off again, next stop: NEW YORK. We will arrive very late, maybe after midnight.

We are finally in New York. We are crossing the long bridge that leads to the island of Manhattan. The vision of skyscrapers is really fascinating, especially when you get to New York for the first time.
Now I need to rest. Tomorrow is a long day… full of appointments.

I started my day… very intense. For two years I have been working on a new perfume ROBERTO CAVALLI. As it was my first experience working with this new licensee, Coty pushed me to do my best and I am really convinced it will be a success!

The study for the shape of bottle was a unanimous choice. We were trying to interpret a classic yet easy shape designed for a girl who will make daily use of it… small enough for a small cosmetic bag!

The packaging is quite classic with a strong appeal to the Cavalli fashion.
The perfume? It had to be like my fashion: sexy, romantic, aggressive yet glamorous. This fragrance is very special, to win the man of your dreams and be able to shake up the man who is neglecting you!

Coty, with the collaboration of French and American experts in essence presented me with a the choice of about 25 small bottles.
I didn’t feel up to making the choice myself and be the judge. I wanted to give my fans the best perfume in the world!
I asked for help and sought the judgment of my friends, the Stars.

I began to travel from Paris to London and from Moscow to New York.
The biggest Stars in music and showbiz helped me to choose…
I returned to Florence with the two samples that received the most votes.
The final decision was Eva’s and mine. We have proclaimed the winner.
It seemed like the election of Miss Universe!

This morning I presented my new fragrance to journalists from the American press. I tried to convey my enthusiasm…
Now the final judgment is up to you and I would love to hear it.

Roberto Cavalli New York mi aspetta, sono arrivato all’aeroporto di Firenze con tanti bagagli e alcuni giocattoli per rendere il viaggio meno noioso, computerino, musica…

Il mio pilota mi aspettava all’ingresso per dirmi che una spia rossa, fra le mille sul cruscotto comandi, annunciava un problema sulla pressurizzazione.
Cazzo, questa non ci voleva, io devo essere questa sera a NY,
domani mattina alle undici avrò il mio primo meeting con giornalisti e fotografi.
“Mio caro Comandante, si spieghi meglio e si metta nei miei panni, devo partire !”
“Bisogna andare a Milano, un meccanico valuterà il problema”
Vi ho raccontato tutto questo, per sentirvi vicini! Più tardi vi informo sul risultato dell’ispezione, non voglio preoccuparvi, se, ci tenete alla mia pelle! (…lo spero!)
Siamo arrivati a Milano, trainati dentro un hangar, dopo una breve ispezione ci informano che Il freddo aveva creato un piccolo problema.
Dopo due ore di attesa, finalmente PARTENZA!

Primo stop a Gander in Canada per un rifornimento (il mio aereo non ha autonomia sufficiente per NY) che palle! …ero finalmente riuscito a chiudere gli occhi!
RIPARTENZA, prossima tappa NEW YORK arriveremo molto tardi, forse oltre la mezzanotte.

Siamo finalmente a New York, stiamo attraversando quel lungo ponte che dall’aeroporto conduce all’isola di Manhattan. La visione dei grattacieli è veramente affascinante, specialmente quando arrivi a New York per la prima volta.
Ora ho bisogno di riposarmi, domani sarà una giornata piena di appuntamenti.

Ho incominciato la mia giornata molto intensamente.
Da due anni sto preparando un nuovo profumo ROBERTO CAVALLI. E’ come se fosse stata la mia prima esperienza, la collaborazione con un nuovo licenziatario come Coty mi ha spinto a dare il massimo e sono quindi convinto che sarà un successo!

Lo studio del flacone è stata una scelta unanime, cercando di interpretare una forma classica e facile per la ragazza che ne farà un uso giornaliero… piccola per un piccolo beauty case!
Il packaging è abbastanza classico con un forte richiamo alla moda Cavalli.
Il profumo? Doveva essere come la mia moda: sexy, romantica, aggressiva, glamour. Una fragranza veramente speciale per conquistare l’uomo dei tuoi sogni e poter stringere a te l’uomo che ti sta trascurando!

Coty, con la collaborazione di esperti di essenze francesi e americani mi ha presentato per la scelta circa 25 piccoli flaconi, non mi sentivo all’altezza di scegliere e giudicare, desideravo offrire alle mie fans il miglior profumo del mondo! Ho chiesto l’aiuto e il giudizio alle Stars, mie amiche.

Ho incominciato a viaggiare da Parigi a Londra da Mosca a New York.
Le più grandi Stars della musica e dello spettacolo mi hanno aiutato a scegliere…
Sono rientrato a Firenze con i due campioni più votati.
La decisione finale è stata di Eva e mia, abbiamo proclamato il vincitore, mi sembrava di essere all’elezione di Miss Universo!

Questa mattina ho presentato il mio nuovo profumo ai giornalisti della stampa americana. Ho cercato di trasmettere il mio entusiasmo…
Adesso il giudizio finale tocca a voi e ci tengo ad averlo.

17. Here I am, again…

Here I am, again. Even if today I have not much to tell you…
Do not think that I am bored or that I am a boring person, what I am saying is that I don’t have exciting things to tell you today…
You know, I have a special affection for you!

Last night I was in a very good restaurant in Florence, at a private party organized by some friends of my daughter Rachel.
Unfortunately the nightlife in Florence it is not usually so exciting, but I enjoyed last night. The food was very good, Nobu style, a less monotonous Japanese, I believe the chef worked at Nobu.
Then, around midnight, music, music and music.

At first I just liked to watch people dancing, but then I got involved and I joined the rhythm. Lupo was watching from under the table, like a child who does not approve father’s folly… After a while he crouched into a long sleep without being disturbed by the music!

The only problem was the wine, I have not yet told you that I am semi teetotaler, perhaps it is better to say that I do not like strong alcohol. I prefer champagne and red wine, the good ones!
Last night we had a red wine from Piedmont, considered among the best. I was mulling the evening when I remembered to have a couple bottles of red Cavalli wine in the car!

I don’t want to advertise, I do not need that, but I want to tell you about my special red wine, a creation of Tommaso, the second of my children.
After graduation, Tommy expressed the desire to breed the racehorses I own for several years.
Tommy decided to move into the beautiful countryside house we have at Panzano in Chianti and devote his life entirely to horses.
It is then that I discovered that love and passion are the most important elements to succeed in what you do!

The farm, “Degli Dei” (that’s the name) with only few brood mare, has given us very good racehorses and a lot of fun.
The acquaintance of one of the best Italian winemakers turned on the passion for wine in Tommaso and the desire to experiment with new varieties. The wait was long but the good results have arrived! The small production makes this wine even more special to us. Tommaso devoted his life to this!

Now the horses are jealous and not longer champions!

Returning to the dinner…
The two bottles of my wine are disappeared in a few minutes at the expense of good wines from Piedmont who lorded over the tables!

Fiorentina have won and so now we breathe a sigh of relief.
The fear of a recession in B series has faded away.

I just finished preparing my bags and tomorrow I am leaving for NEW YORK!
My dear friends, tomorrow I will write my first adventures from the plane.

Ieri sera sono stato in un ristorante a Firenze molto giusto ad una festa privata organizzata da amici di mia figlia Rachele.
La vita notturna fiorentina purtroppo non e delle migliori, ma, mi sono divertito tanto. Il cibo era molto buono, stile Nobu, un giapponese meno monotono, il cuoco credo sia un ex di Nobu.
Verso mezzanotte, musica, musica e musica.

All’inizio mi piaceva vedere ballare, ma dopo mi ci sono scatenato anch’io. Lupo mi guardava da sotto il tavolo, come un bambino che non ammette le follie del babbo… Dopo poco si e accucciato in un lungo sonno senza che la musica lo disturbasse!

L’unico problema è stato il vino, non vi ho ancora detto che sono semi astemio, forse è meglio dire che non amo gli alcolici forti.
Preferisco lo champagne e principalmente i vini rossi, di quelli buoni!
Ieri sera mi hanno portato un vino rosso piemontese, considerato fra i migliori, mi stava sciupando la serata quando mi sono ricordato di avere un vino rosso Cavalli in macchina!

Cavalli - Tenuta Degli Dei

Non ve ne parlo per farmi pubblicità, non ne ho bisogno, ma solo per parlarvi del mio rosso speciale, una creazione di Tommaso, il secondo dei miei figli.
Dopo gli studi, Tommy espresse il desiderio di allevare i cavalli da corsa, ovvero, migliorare la scuderia di cavalli che avevo già da vari anni. Ritirarsi in campagna, nella bella casa che abbiamo a Panzano nel Chianti e dedicare la sua vita interamente ai cavalli. Da quel momento ho scoperto che l’amore e la passione sono gli elementi più importanti per avere successo in ciò che fai!

L’allevamento “Degli Dei” (questo è il nome) composto da poche fattrici, ha dato ottimi cavalli da corsa e ci ha fatto divertire molto. La conoscenza con uno dei migliori enologhi italiani ha poi acceso in Tommaso la passione per il vino e la voglia di sperimentare nuovi vitigni. L’attesa è stata lunga ma i buoni risultati sono arrivati! La piccola produzione rende ancora più speciale questo vino e Tommaso ci sta dedicando la sua vita!

I cavalli sono un po’ gelosi e negli ultimi anni non sono più campioni come prima!

Ritornando alla mia cena di ieri sera…
Le due bottiglie che avevo in macchina sono sparite in pochi minuti a scapito dei buoni vini piemontesi che spadroneggiavano sui tavoli!

La Fiorentina ha vinto e noi tifosi incominciamo a tirare un sospiro di sollievo.
Il timore di una recessione in serie B incomincia ad allontanarsi.

Ho appena finito di preparare i miei bagagli, domani NEW YORK!
Miei cari amici, domani vi scriverò le mie prime avventure dall’aereo.

16. It’s incredibly cold, too cold to be true!

It’s incredibly cold, too cold to be true!
I’m already in bed, curled up in my big bed, with a good movie and a great desire for sunshine!

I let Lupo out to pee, my God, I’m as cold as a sorbet.
I’m irresponsible because I wore just a simple plain sweater with ten below zero.

I remember, about twenty years ago, when the temperature at night dropped to minus 15 and then rose up to +10 during the day. The temperature difference killed 50 percent of the vegetation in Tuscany. Over two thousand olive trees died on my hill, a real tragedy. Some of them were centenarians!

I am leaving for New York. I’m excited. New York has a great energy. It’s a time to see and been seen and to be inspired. I need to begin to warm up my adrenaline for the upcoming fashion show.

I’m sorry to leave Lupo. He will miss me, but will be nice to meet up again.

I will keep you posted here on my New York adventure.
I have a small apartment on 57th and New York feels like home.

Roberto Cavalli Un freddo incredibile, troppo per essere vero!
Sono già a letto, accoccolato nel mio lettone, un bel film e tanta voglia di sole!

Ho portato Lupo a fare pipi, my God, sono tornato freddo come un sorbetto. Sono anche incosciente poiché indossavo un semplice pullover con dieci sotto zero.

Mi torna in mente, circa venti anni fa, quando la temperatura scendeva durante la notte a meno 15 e il giorno saliva a più 10. La differenza termica fece morire il 50 per cento della vegetazione di mezza Toscana. Nella mia collina, furono sacrificati più di duemila alberi di olivo, una vera tragedia. Alcuni di loro erano centenari!

Sono in partenza per New York, sono felice. New York è una grande fonte di energia, in questo momento di collezioni ho bisogno di vedere, di sentirmi internazionale e importante, ammirato. Ho bisogno di incominciare a riscaldare la mia adrenalina in vista delle prossime sfilate.

Mi dispiace lasciare Lupo, soffrirà della mia mancanza ma sarà bello ritrovarsi al mio rientro.

Vi racconterò la mia avventura newyorchese, per me sarà come essere a casa, ovvero lo sono visto che possiedo un piccolo appartamento sulla 57 che mi aspetta.
