211. Lectio Magistralis at the Domus Academy…

Sometimes I think I live in a dream… and in my dream there are beautiful women who are the source of my inspiration… I love women, it’s a passion you can not suppress… it involves you… disrupts your life… I wake up and I realize that it was not a dream… it is reality…

I have to thank God for giving me the opportunity to realize my dreams, giving me the opportunity to become in turn a creator of dreams for all women of the world…

Today I am at the Domus Academy where I was invited to receive the prestigious Honorary Master Diploma in Fashion Management.

I’m very touched, I confess! This esteemed award is the recognition for my first 40 years in the fashion world as an ambassador of Italian fashion worldwide…

The ceremony is one of those events that will remain etched in my memory for the rest of my life… the emotions flow through my mind, and like a movie that runs fast, flashing before my eyes… I see my father… my mother… the period of my youth… my marriage… the birth of Cristiana… my first fashion show…

The applause instantly brings me back to reality… I receive the scroll… I feel moved as I read my name on it… I’m flattered… happy… honored… many more emotions, emotions I would like to share with all those people who, over the years, have been close to me…

Now it’s up to me, it is the time for the Lectio Magistralis… I do not have much time but I want to transfer my experience and my passion to the students of Domus Academy, to all those future designers who will make our future more beautiful and functional by combining their genius passion and art…

The story of my beginning, early success and the early adversities faced during these first forty years as I chased the dream of beauty. I designed clothes for women who are the ultimate expression of beauty, and for men who need the beauty of women to complete themselves.

Italy is a fantastic country… often we do not realize that centuries of history and evolution allow us to live daily in contact with art… art which is the main source of inspiration for all designers…

I LOVE YOU

A volte penso di vivere in un sogno… e nel mio sogno ci sono donne bellissime che sono la fonte della mia ispirazione… amo le donne, è una passione di quelle che non puoi reprimere… che ti coinvolge… che ti stravolge la vita… poi, mi sveglio e mi rendo conto che non era un sogno… ma è la realtà…

Devo ringraziare Dio per avermi dato la possibilità di realizzare i miei sogni, di avermi dato la possibilità di diventare a mia volta un creatore di sogni per tutte le donne del mondo…

Oggi mi trovo alla Domus Accademy dove sono stato invitato per ricevere il Master Honoris Causa in Fashion Management.

Sono molto emozionato, lo confesso! Quest’ambito master è il riconoscimento per i miei primi quaranta anni nel mondo della moda e per il ruolo di ambasciatore della moda Italiana nel mondo…

La cerimonia è uno di quegli eventi che ti rimangono impressi nella memoria per il resto della vita… le emozioni si susseguono nella mia mente, e come in un film che scorre velocissimo davanti a miei occhi, rivedo mio Padre… mia Madre… il periodo della mia giovinezza… il matrimonio… la nascita di Cristiana… la prima sfilata…

Gli applausi mi riportano istantaneamente alla realtà… ricevo la pergamena… mi fa’ un certo effetto leggere il mio nome… sono lusingato… felice… onorato… ancora emozioni, che vorrei condividere con tutte quelle persone che in tutti questi anni mi sono state vicino…

Ora tocca a me, è il momento della Lectio Magistralis, non ho molto tempo a disposizione ma voglio trasferire la mia esperienza e la mia passione agli studenti della Domus Accademy, a quei futuri designer che renderanno il nostro futuro più bello e funzionale unendo genio passione e arte…

Gli racconto dei miei inizi, dei primi successi e delle prime avversità, durante questi primi quarant’anni ho inseguito il sogno della bellezza. Ho disegnato abiti per le donne che sono la massima espressione della bellezza, e per gli uomini che della bellezza delle donne hanno bisogno per completare se stessi.

L’Italia è un paese fantastico, spesso non ci rendiamo conto che secoli di storia e di evoluzione ci consentono di vivere ogni giorno a contatto con l’arte, quell’arte che è la fonte principale d’ispirazione per ogni designer…
