79. I Could Not and Did Not Want to Spend That Much…

Roberto Cavalli79. I could not and did not want to spend that much…

I was so keen to see my project accomplished. Just as with my approach to fashion this was going to be a really different Boat!

After several estimates, I chose the Baglietto shipyard in La Spezia. At the time the owner was one of my acquaintances and I thought this was a good thing. Later I realized that the nautical world is a minefield – if you fail and put a foot out of place you will be blown right out of the water!

The construction of the “big boat” then commences… every two weeks I go to supervise the work… each time is a thrill. The interior design is complicated… I get help from my architect friend… my bedroom is large and comfortable… but the interior design studies have a long way to go!

Once the engines are positioned I begin to understand the spaces we have to design around. I imagine the Big-boat darting over the sea, one of the fastest boats of its class, 42 meters at over 50 knots!

My wife Eva doesn’t share my thoughts. Her dreams take a different direction from mine! A comfortable boat… very large closets and shelves… can hold everything you need to invite everyone! With the help of a decorator of her taste, they design some beautiful “marble” bathrooms. Speed and sportsmanship disappear right out of the window… leaving room for porcelain dishes… crystal glasses…!

The Bat-boat then becomes the plaything of my favorite holidays. This large, sleek boat becomes “Miss St. Tropez…” “Miss Porto Cervo…” moored next to Briatore’s “FLATIRON” and fortunate to experience the warmth of the feet of the richest Russian in the world – tycoon Abramovich and friends.

The Big Boat compared to the Bat-zodiac / La Grande barca e il Bat-gommone

With my Bat-zodiac I was lucky enough to get into the most secluded, intimate, isolated bays in the Mediterranean Sea. With my camera I have created an album of photos detailing great rocks, cliffs as well as panoramic vistas. Every corner of the Mediterranean Sea enjoys its own particular color, its own particular hues!

The sea and its colors are my life! / Il mare e i suoi colori sono la mia vita!

The sea and its colors are my life!

I spent magic moments creating the “big boat” as magical as were the dreams that went into it…

I LOVE YOU
