168. Journey to a Magic Kingdom!

I am in flight… Royal Bhutan Airlines.

Before returning to Italy, I wanted to visit one of the most fascinating countries in the world, Bhutan! Recently opened to tourism, the Kingdom of Bhutan lives on religion and peace.

I would like to visit the Buddhist monasteries in order to breathe a pure spiritual atmosphere, one that unfortunately our country is not able to give us.

Here wealth is measured in degrees of happiness!

I look out of the window… the pilot announces that we are flying over Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world… completely covered in snow… a majestic peak that emerges from a sea of white clouds… it seems to shout its record by pointing to the immensity of the sky!

How exciting, I never thought that one day I would see the majestic Himalayas!

Today I begin my journey into the magical lands of Bhutan and Tibet and I will tell you about every moment of my new adventure. A diary I will share with you and for you!

At the airport the guide who will accompany me in the coming days is waiting for me. He is wearing traditional dress, the Gho. It is a red-burgundy knee-length tunic, black socks and big black moccasins!

A one-hour journey will take us to the hotel. We travel through forests and farms with large plantations of rice. My hotel is tucked away among the trees in a small forest,

Everything around me is peaceful. Even the smile of those who greet us is sweet and serene. In my room a wood burning stove and, under the covers, a hot water bottle. It’s like a blast from the past.

Early in the morning the driver is waiting to take us to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.

I spend the day as a normal tourist…museum of Tibetan cloth… a weaving school for children… a museum of introduction to the Buddhist religion… a lot of time looking for books with ancient Chinese illustrations which could be useful for a future collection.

A little shopping, as a tourist, fabrics of course! I am helped by a Monk to meditate. The monastery is dimly lit, a pungent smell of incense in the air. It is not easy, I have to let go of all my thoughts… I promised myself to come back soon… it would take weeks to get away from much of what binds us to the earthly world.

The feeling is intense… special… attractive!

On my return to the hotel, the manager tells me of a phone call from the Royal Palace. The King and Queen have invited me to a private dinner and will arrive at the hotel this evening! They knew from Manav, my partner in the New Delhi boutique, that I was coming.

Punctually at 7 pm their Royal Highnesses arrived, preceded by various royal assistants and bodyguards dressed in long black robes.

A beautiful young couple, The King is 32 years old and the Queen is 22. A delightful, uncomplicated, couple. We talked as if we had known each other for some time. The Queen wanted to know a lot about my life as a designer. She is a great fan of my fashion.

I was interested to learn about life as a King. My questions seemed to be addressed to an old friend. After dinner the King left us for a few minutes and returned with a large Buddha in gold metal. It is the work of a great Indian artist, a beautiful piece of art!

We left with hugs and a promise to meet again in Florence – they love Italian art… then perhaps on to Milan for my Fashion Show.

An unforgettable meal in wonderful, hospitable company! A new emotion to add to the many of my life…

168. Viaggio in un Regno Magico!

Sono in volo… Bhutan Royal Airways.

Prima di tornare in Italia, desidero visitare uno dei paesi più affascinanti del mondo, Il Bhutan! Aperto al turismo da pochi anni, il Regno del Buthan vive di religione e tranquillità.

Desidero visitare i monasteri Buddisti per poter respirare una atmosfera pulita, atmosfera che purtroppo il nostro paese non riesce a darci.

Qui la ricchezza è misurata dal grado di felicità!

Guardo fuori dal finestrino, il pilota ci annuncia che stiamo sorvolando il Monte Everest, la cima più alta del mondo, completamente innevata, una punta maestosa che emerge da un mare di nuvole bianche, sembra voglia gridare il suo primato puntando verso l’immensità del cielo!

Che emozione, non avrei mai pensato che un giorno avrei potuto vedere la maestosa catena dell’Himalaya!

Da oggi incomincio il mio viaggio nella terra magica del Tibet e da oggi vi racconterò ogni attimo della mia nuova avventura. Un diario scritto con voi e per voi!

All’uscita dell’aeroporto mi sta aspettando la guida che mi accompagnerà nei prossimi giorni. Indossa un abito tradizionale, il Gho, una tunica rosso-bordò lunga fino al ginocchio, calze nere e grandi mocassini neri!

Un viaggio di un’ora per arrivare all’hotel.  Attraversiamo boschi e fattorie con grandi piantagioni di riso. Il mio albergo è nascosto fra gli alberi di una piccola foresta.

Tutto intorno a me è pace, anche il sorriso di chi ci ha accolto è dolce e sereno. Nella mia camera una stufa a legna e sotto le coperte la borsa dell’acqua calda.  È come un tuffo nel passato.
 
Presto la mattina l’autista ci aspettava per portarci a Thimphu, la piccola capitale del Bhutan.

Ho trascorso la giornata come un classico turista, museo del tessuto Tibetano, una scuola di tessitura per bambini, un museo di introduzione alla religione buddista. Ho trascorso molto tempo a cercare  libri con antiche illustrazioni cinesi, avrebbero potuto essermi utili per qualche collezione.

Un po’ di shopping, da turista, tessuti naturalmente! Sono stato aiutato alla meditazione da un Monk. Il monastero era semibuio, nell’aria un acre odore di incenso. Non è stato facile, avrei dovuto allontanare ogni mio pensiero…  Mi sono ripromesso di tornare presto, occorrono settimane per allontanarsi da molto di ciò che ci lega al mondo terreno…

La sensazione è stata intensa… speciale… attraente!

Al mio rientro in albergo, il direttore mi riferisce di una telefonata dal Royal Palace.  Il Re e La Regina hanno espresso il desiderio di conoscermi e mi hanno invitato ad una cena privata, arriveranno all’albergo questa sera.  Hanno saputo del mio arrivo da Manav, il mio socio della boutique di New Delhi.

Puntualissimi alle sette I reali del Bhutan sono arrivati in albergo, preceduti da vari assistenti reali e bodyguard vestiti con lunghe tuniche nere.

Una bella coppia, giovanissimi, Il Re ha 32 anni e la giovane Regina, 22. Due persone deliziose, semplici.  Abbiamo parlato come se ci si conoscesse da diverso tempo. La Regina desiderava molto conoscerete la mia vita di designer. È una grande fan della mia moda.
 
È stato molto interessante conoscere le abitudini di un Re. Le mie domande sembravano come rivolte ad un vecchio amico. A fine cena il Re si è allontanato per qualche minuto. È ritornato con un grande Buddha in metallo dorato, opera di un grande artista Indiano, bellissimo!

Ci siamo lasciati con tanti abbracci e con la promessa de ricontrarci a Firenze, poiché amano molto l’arte italiana e poi a Milano per assistere a una mia sfilata di moda.

Una cena indimenticabile in piacevole compagnia! Una nuova emozione da aggiungere alle tantissime della mia vita…
