I began my life as a designer on tiptoe. I was afraid of everything that could put me on the spot. I was very shy and insecure. I approached interviews with an incredible fear.

In the first few seconds my voice was hoarse, I had a frog in my throat, it didn’t seem to want to produce a normal sound. After two minutes it was a bit ‘better, and after another five I would not want to stop!

Often my first words were to break the ice: “I’m emotional… I’m used to expressing myself only through my dresses…!”. Later, however, everything flowed easily.

Today, the success has come, and it is well established. Maybe it was because of my great desire to get there.

I wish I could give to all young people my piece of advice – if you want something with enough resolve, tenacity and stubbornness, you almost always will be able to achieve it.

The important thing is to take life with constructive lightness, because life is an adventure, and definitely you have to smile.

That’s why sometimes I say that my dresses, in their plasticity, in their particularity, should make you smile or, at least, help you to smile.

Today I have changed. So Much. Perhaps too much.
Why do I say too much? Because fear means emotion, and too much security, the great confidence in myself that I have now acquired, has denied me some of that emotions… I mean, I preferred the old version of myself! I was always afraid of not being “up”, of not being “on”.

With the success I have lost so many things… I lost a little of my freedom, a little of my simplicity, even though I do everything I can to remain a simple person.

Always follow your dreams…

366. Ho cominciato la mia vita di designer in punta di piedi…

Ho cominciato la mia vita di designer in punta di piedi. Temevo tutto ciò̀ che potesse mettermi in mostra. Ero d’una timidezza e d’una incertezza esagerate. Affrontavo le inter- viste con una paura incredibile.

Nei primi secondi la mia voce era rauca, impastata, sembrava non voler uscire. Dopo due minuti andava un po’ meglio, e dopo altri cinque non avrei più̀ voluto smettere!

Spesso le mie prime parole per rompere il ghiaccio erano: “sono emozionato… sono abituato a parlare solo attraverso i miei abiti…!”. Dopo, però, tutto scorreva con facilità.

Oggi il successo è arrivato, e si è pure consolidato. Forse è stato merito del mio grande desiderio di arrivare.

Questo concetto vorrei poterlo infondere in tutti i giovani, se vuoi una cosa con risolutezza, tenacia e ostinazione, quasi sempre riuscirai a ottenerla.

L’importante è prendere la vita con leggerezza costruttiva, perché la vita è un’avventura, e decisamente devi sorriderle.

Ecco perché a volte dico che i miei abiti, nella loro plasticità, nella loro particolarità, devono far sorridere, o meglio, devono aiutare a sorridere.

Oggi sono cambiato. Tanto. Forse troppo.

Perché dico troppo? Perché il timore significa emozione, e la troppa sicurezza, la grande confidenza in me stesso che ormai ho acquisito, mi rende più̀ freddo… Insomma, mi preferivo prima! Quando avevo sempre paura di non essere all’altezza.

Con il successo ho perso tante cose… Ho perso un po’ della mia libertà, ho perso un po’ della mia semplicità, anche se faccio di tutto per restare una persona semplice.

Travelling to enhance creativity…

I love Florence, Florence is my home, here live my loved ones, but my work has led me to travel around the world. Thus my wanderings have taken me to visit incredible places, discover new cultures and meet great people.

I have also lived in Paris… London… New York… Milan…

Travel, discovering new places and learning from cultures so distant from my own has had a very important impact on me through my creative journey.

Greeting ideas and lifestyles different from those with which I grew up has allowed me to broaden and see beyond my natural horizon. It has taught me to discover aspects of life that I did not know, that I did not even imagine existed.

The charm of Paris, the vitality of New York, the international character of London, the feeling of peace of Bhutan, the worldliness of Los Angeles, the vibrations of Miami, the immensity of Antarctica, the ancient Chinese civilization, the interesting inhabitants of Papua New Guinea and the glimpses you get of each through the windows of their literatures and languages…

I could continue to talk of India, Japan, Brazil, Sweden, Argentina, Germany, Montenegro, Germany, Greece, Spain and Australia…

Whoever follows me knows every detail of my trips. I like to document them on the Blog sharing my impressions and the feelings that each of these trips have given me.

Traveling for me is a great source of inspiration. I have a vast collection of photographs. For every trip I take home thousands of photographs that I archive and analyze. Each of these images is associated with its own emotions as though they were keywords or metadata forever attached to the images themselves. They resurface strongly in my mind as in “la recherche du temps perdu”. Even the scents, the sounds and those unique sensations that every place and every person I have met on my trips have given me, return.

The advent of digital cameras and personal computers have opened the way for a new creativity made of colours, image overlays and sounds, each with an ease of archiving and retrieving. These can be both voluntary and involuntary as they make their way back into our memory.

I cannot yet reveal what are the travels that have inspired my next collection, but as you continue to follow me you will discover.

Viaggiare per creare…

Amo Firenze, sono fiorentino e Firenze è la mia casa, qui ci sono i miei affetti più cari ma Il mio lavoro mi ha portato a viaggiare in giro per il mondo. Questo mio girovagare mi ha portato a visitare luoghi incredibili, scoprire nuove culture e conoscere persone fantastiche.

Ho anche vissuto a Parigi… Londra… New York… Milano…

Viaggiare, scoprire nuovi luoghi, imparare da culture così distanti dalla mia ha avuto un impatto molto importante nel mio percorso creativo.

Confrontarsi con idee e stili di vita diversi mi ha permesso di vedere oltre il mio orizzonte naturale. Mi ha insegnato a scoprire aspetti della vita che non conoscevo, che non immaginavo nemmeno esistere.

Il fascino di Parigi, la vitalità di New York, l’internazionalità di Londra, la sensazione di pace del Bhutan, la mondanità di Los Angeles, le vibrazioni di Miami, l’immensità dei ghiacci dell’Antartide, l’antica civiltà Cinese, gli interessanti abitanti della Papua Nuova Guinea…

Potrei continuare all’infinito a parlarvi dell’India, del Giappone, del Brasile, della Svezia, dell’Argentina, della Germania, del Montenegro, della Germania, della Grecia, della Spagna, dell’Australia…

Chi mi segue conosce ogni dettaglio dei mie viaggi, mi piace documentarli sul Blog e condividere le mie impressioni, le sensazioni che ognuno di questi viaggi mi procura.

Viaggiare per me è una grande fonte di ispirazione. Ho una vastissima collezione fotografica che ho iniziato tanti anni. Ad ogni viaggio porto a casa migliaia di fotografie che archivio e analizzo. Ognuna di queste immagini racchiude in se emozioni che riaffiorano prepotentemente nella mia mente, “la recherche du temps perdu”. I profumi, i suoni e quelle sensazioni uniche che ogni luogo, che ogni persona che ho incontrato nei miei viaggi mi ha regalato.

L’avvento delle macchine fotografiche digitali e dei personal computer hanno aperto la strada ad una nuova creatività, fatta di colore, di sovrapposizioni di immagini, di facilità di archiviazione e consultazione.

Non posso ancora svelarvi quali sono i viaggi che hanno ispirato la mia prossima collezione, ma se continuate a seguirmi lo scoprirete…

[:en]364. Love is in the Air

Love is in the air, you can almost feel it, it’s palpable…

Not to sound obvious, but it is as though Christmas was just a few days ago…? It happens to me every year, after the break for the Christmas holidays I dive headfirst into my work for the February’s Fashion Shows. Suddenly, it is spring!

Already, for a few days now I have sensed Spring in the air. Even Lupo is different… he is happier, always wants to go out… I think he has the desire to find a girlfriend…!

Spring brings along the feeling of renewal, spring is the emergence of new life. Nature is reborn after the dark winter period and we experience an explosion of colours, scents, feelings!

Spring brings us happiness and a willingness to begin again, to turn the page and start a new chapter in the great book of life.

We put away ours heavy winter clothes and we replace them with lighter, more colourful and joyful summer dresses.

Spring is the season dedicated to women. It starts with the International Women’s Day on March 8 and continues until the summer.

It is in Spring that new loves are born, the flowers bloom, the birds sing and the magic of life seems to suddenly accelerate.

Love is in the air!

Spring prepares us for Summer, another great season, another hymn to nature, love, outdoors, travel…

364. Love is in the Air

L’amore è nell’aria, si percepisce, si può quasi toccare…

Non vorrei sembrare ovvio, ma, non era Natale qualche giorno fa…? Mi succede tutti gli anni, dopo la pausa per le feste natalizie mi tuffo a capofitto per preparare le sfilate di Febbraio e poi, all’improvviso, è già primavera!

È già qualche giorno che nell’aria si respira il profumo della primavera, anche Lupo è diverso… è più felice, vuole sempre uscire. Credo che abbia il desiderio di trovare una fidanzata…!

E la primavera porta con sé quella piacevole sensazione di rinnovamento, la primavera è l’avvento della vita. La natura rinasce dopo il buio periodo invernale ed è un’esplosione di colori, di profumi, di sensazioni!

La primavera ci regale il buonumore e la predisposizione a ricominciare, a voltare pagina e iniziare un nuovo capitolo nel grande libro della vita.

Si abbandonano i pesanti abiti invernali e si sostituiscono con i più leggeri e gioiosi abiti estivi.

La primavera è la stagione delle donne, inizia con la festa della donna l’otto di marzo e prosegue fino all’estate.

È in primavera che nascono i nuovi amori, che sbocciano i fiori e la magia della vita sembra accelerare all’improvviso.

Love is in the air!

E poi, la primavera ci prepara all’estate, un’altra bellissima stagione, un altro inno alla natura, all’amore, all’aria aperta, ai viaggi…
