235. Those fifteen minutes that last an eternity…

Even this year I chose the Peace Arch, in Milan, as a location for the fashion shows of Just Cavalli and Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer collections. I am particularly fond of this location…

Today, the fashion shows are very different from those of my first collections presented at the Palazzo Pitti’s Sala Bianca in Florence… but the hectic atmosphere that precedes the fashion shows has not changed… months and months of work culminating in those fifteen minutes on the catwalks… those fifteen minutes that seem to never end…

The inspiration always comes quickly… then comes the research when new ideas can morph into even newer ideas… they flow like the pictures I take in my travels around the world and the memories out of which they materialize… nature is always the source of my greatest inspiration…

The forms… suddenly… the colors blend together in my mind creating those visions that I then transfer into my creations…

The choice of materials … new technologies … the leathers that are cut with the precision of a laser beam… digital printing of fabrics… tools that allow me to create without limit…

The preparation of a fashion show is a huge job that involves all… the skilled seamstresses who, with infinite skill, transform the designs into clothes that suddenly come to life … the press office… the stage preparation… the lights … the music … the Stylist’s choice of the models… every detail is important…

As we get closer to the date of the fashion show it seems as though we are falling behind… we need more time…

Then, suddenly, like a huge puzzle, each piece falls into place… we breathe a big a sigh of relief… the spell is renewed… a dream comes true…

The lights go out and suddenly a surreal silence envelops the room… backstage the models are ready to go out on the catwalk… the finishing touches are deftly made… the music explodes… the spotlight… the applause… the photographers flashes…

I watch the show from my vantage point… I am standing behind the last row, as usual… listening to the comments… observing the reactions of the audience… this time I passed the exam!!!

Those interminable fifteen minutes are almost gone, I reach the backstage and take the brilliant Eva by the hand… it’s up to us… a brief appearance on the catwalk… every time is a new emotion…

Tomorrow I will return to create… we are already late for the Fall/Winter Collection…

235. Quei quindici minuti che durano un’eternità…

Anche quest’anno ho scelto l’Arco della Pace come location per le sfilate di Just Cavalli e Roberto Cavalli Primavera/Estate, è una location alla quale sono particolarmente affezionato…

Oggi le sfilate sono molto diverse da quelle delle mie prime collezioni presentate alla Sala Bianca di Palazzo Pitti a Firenze… ma l’atmosfera frenetica che precede le sfilate non è cambiata…
mesi e mesi di lavoro che culminano in quei quindici minuti sulla passerelle… quei quindici minuti che sembrano non finire mai…

L’ispirazione come sempre viene all’improvviso… poi inizia la fase dedicata alla ricerca dove le nuove idee si trasformano ed esplodono in una reazione a catena… scorrono come le foto che ho scattato nei miei viaggi intorno al mondo e i ricordi si materializzano… la natura è sempre la mia grande forma d’ispirazione…

Le forme… i colori… improvvisamente si fondono insieme nella mia mente creando quelle visioni che poi trasferisco nelle mie creazioni…

La scelta dei materiali… le nuove tecnologie… le pelli che vengono tagliate con la precisione del raggio laser… la stampa digitale dei tessuti… strumenti che mi permettono di creare senza limiti…

La preparazione della sfilata è un lavoro immenso che coinvolge tutti… le abili sarte con infinita maestria trasformano i modelli in abiti che improvvisamente prendono vita… l’ufficio stampa… la preparazione degli allestimenti scenici… le luci… la musica… le Stylist… la scelta delle modelle… ogni dettaglio è importante…

Ci si avvicina alla data della sfilata e si ha l’impressione di essere così in ritardo… abbiamo bisogno di più tempo…

Poi, improvvisamente, come in un enorme puzzle, ogni pezzo trova la sua posizione… tiro un sospiro di sollievo… anche questa volta l’incantesimo si rinnova… un sogno che diventa realtà…

Si spengono le luci e improvvisamente un silenzio surreale avvolge la sala… nel backstage le modelle sono pronte a uscire sulla passerella… gli ultimi ritocchi… esplode la musica… si accendono i riflettori… gli applausi… i flash dei fotografi…

Osservo lo spettacolo dalla mia posizione privilegiata… sono in piedi dietro l’ultima fila, come sempre… ascolto i commenti… osservo le reazioni del pubblico… anche questa volta ho passato l’esame!!!

Quegli interminabili quindici minuti sono quasi passati, raggiungo il backstage e prendo la brillante Eva per mano… tocca a noi… una breve apparizione in passerella… ogni volta è un’emozione…

Da domani si ritorna a creare… siamo già in ritardo per la collezione Autunno/Inverno…
