How did you start the New Year? What are your resolutions for 2016?

2016 will be a great year, I’m sure, I can feel it…

I wanted to say goodbye to 2015 and start 2016 in a different way by going to an Enchanted World, a world at 30 degrees below zero…!

Our journey begins with a helicopter transfer from Cavalli Island to the nearby Stockholm airport and then a short flight to the northern tip of Sweden.

The last part of our trip to the Icehotel is by dog sleigh. We are now surrounded by snow, ice and absolute silence. A silence broken only by the sound of the sleigh gliding over the snow…

The cold is absolute but it is a dry cold… almost pleasant! We are equipped with a thermos of mulled wine that helps fortify us against the harsh climate…

The dogs do not show signs of fatigue. Our guide explains that they have incredible strength and stamina despite their small size. Their weight varies from 15 to 30 Kg. They can reach the respectable speed of 45 kph. Sledge dogs have been used by man for the past 3000 years! What fantastic animals…

We arrive at our destination and the landscape that greets us is like a fairy tale… we have arrived in a world sparkling with icy enchantment!!

We enter the long corridor that takes us inside the Icehotel where we are entirely surrounded by ice, from floor to ceiling… the entire Icehotel is a sculpted work of art. The walls, the vault, the statues… the lighting shows off every detail to perfection… an incredible sight made through the fine art of the artists who created it and by nature itself that has transformed the water into a magical material easy to mold into every possible form.

Skillfully placed lighting creates incredible effects thanks to the natural translucency of ice.

In the Spring the Icehotel will melt completely, returning to nature the water borrowed for such a brief season… only to present us next winter with the gift and wonder of ice to be sculpted once again by loving, creative hands into a new Winter Wonderland… a new Icehotel!

Come avete iniziato il Nuovo Anno? Quali sono i vostri buoni propositi per il 2016?

Il 2016 sarà un anno fantastico, ne sono sicuro, lo percepisco…

Ho voluto salutare il 2015 e iniziare il 2016 in un modo diverso, visitando un Mondo Incantato, un mondo a 30 gradi sotto zero…!

Il nostro viaggio inizia con un trasferimento in elicottero da Cavalli Island al vicino aeroporto di Stoccolma per poi raggiungere in aereo la punta nord della Svezia.

L’ultimo parte del nostro viaggio verso l’Icehotel la effettuiamo a bordo di slitte trainate da cani, inoltrandoci sempre di più in un mondo fatto di neve, ghiaccio e un silenzio assoluto, interrotto soltanto dal rumore delle slitte che scivolano sul manto di neve…

Il freddo è assoluto ma è un freddo secco… quasi piacevole! Ci siamo equipaggiati con un thermos di buon vino caldo che ci aiuta a combattere il rigido clima…

I cani non mostrano segni di stanchezza, mi spiegano che hanno una forza incredibile, malgrado le loro ridotte dimensioni, il loro peso varia dai 15 ai 30 Kg. Riescono a raggiungere una velocità di ben 45 Kmh. I cani vengono utilizzati per il traino delle slitte da oltre 3000 anni! Che animali fantastici…

Arriviamo a destinazione e il paesaggio che ci attende è di quelli da fiabe… siamo arrivati in un mondo incantato!

Entriamo nel lungo corridoio che ci porta all’interno dell’Icehotel, siamo interamente circondati dal ghiaccio, dal pavimento al soffitto… tutta la struttura è un opera d’arte. Le pareti, la volta, le statue… ogni dettaglio è perfetto… uno spettacolo incredibile realizzato attraverso la sapiente arte degli artisti che lo hanno creato e dalla natura che ha trasformato l’acqua in un materiale facile da plasmare in ogni forma possibile.

Una accurata illuminazione crea degli effetti incredibili grazie anche alla translucenza naturale del ghiaccio.

A primavera l’Icehotel si scioglierà completamente restituendo alla natura l’acqua presa in prestito… fino al prossimo inverno quando la natura ci donerà ancora una volta il ghiaccio da scolpire e modellare dagli artisti che creeranno così un nuovo Icehotel, una nuova opera d’arte…

This year I celebrated Christmas twice…!
First in my beloved Florence, surrounded by my children and grandchildren… what a joy to admire the expressions of happiness, wonder and joy on the faces of my grandchildren! For a day I became a child again myself!

Christmas takes us back in time… we return to our childhoods… we rediscover the pleasure of being together with our loved ones… for a moment even the passage of time slows down and seems to stand still.

The best gifts I have received? The drawings of my grandchildren… real artists… I was touched… they, like me, love colours… children have a unique mastery in approaching the world of colours… they are artists who have learned their craft by observing the world around them, nature in all its glory… they don’t have fixed patterns in their heads, they draw freehand, think with free spirits and express their full emotions through their art!

I keep all their masterpieces… maybe I should print them on fabric and make a junior collection…!

My second Christmas was White. I was surrounded by snow at Cavalli Island… here a Winter Wonderland has already taken over. Everything sparkles in the sunlight creating a fairy-tale scenario… The pace of life has slowed down and a calm, surreal peace has embraced the entire island. I love this quiet. It allows me to reorganize my thoughts and my mind, giving me feelings and memories otherwise overwhelmed by the bustle of everyday life.

In a few hours time we shall greet the new year. It seems almost impossible that another year has already passed by… what happened to 2015… how did it fly away so quickly…? It was a great year full of important events and 2016 will be even more so!

2016 is coming in with all your dreams, your hopes and aspirations… all the things you desire… never stop dreaming because dreaming really helps your dreams come true! “When you wish upon a star…”

My wish for you is to spend the New Year with your loved ones in peace and serenity…

[:it]413. Il 2016 sta arrivando con dentro tutti i vostri sogni e le cose belle che desiderate…

Quest’anno ho festeggiato il Natale due volte…!
Il primo nella mia amata Firenze, circondato da figli e nipoti… che gioia ammirare le espressioni di felicità, stupore e gioia dei miei nipotini… per un giorno sono ritornato anche io un bambino!

Il Natale ci riporta indietro nel tempo, si ritorna bambini… si riscopre il piacere di stare insieme ai nostri cari… per un attimo anche lo scorrere del tempo rallenta, sembra quasi fermarsi.

Il regalo più bello che ho ricevuto? I disegni dei miei nipotini… dei veri artisti… mi hanno commosso… loro, come me, amano i colori… i bambini hanno una maestria unica nell’accostare i colori… sono artisti che hanno imparato la loro arte osservando il mondo che li circonda, la natura in tutto il suo splendore… non hanno schemi fissi, disegnano a mano libera liberi da ogni preconcetto, esprimono le loro emozioni attraverso la loro arte!

Conservo tutti i lori capolavori… forse dovrei stamparli su tessuto e farci una collezione junior…!

Il secondo Natale l’ho trascorso circondato dalla neve a Cavalli Island… qui il Generale Inverno ha già presso pieno possesso dei suoi territori e in questo angolo di paradiso la neve ha creato un paesaggio da fiaba… la natura circostante si è subito adeguata e una calma e una pace quasi surreale hanno avvolto tutta l’isola. Adoro questi tranquillità, mi permette di riorganizzare i miei pensieri e la mia mente mi regala sensazioni e ricordi altrimenti sommersi dalla frenesia della vita quotidiana.

Tra poche ore saluteremo il nuovo anno e mi sembra quasi impossibile che un altro anno sia già trascorso… cosa è successo al 2015… come ha fatto a volare via così velocemente? È stato un anno importante e pieno di eventi e il 2016 lo sarà ancora di più!

Il 2016 sta arrivando con dentro tutti i vostri sogni e desideri… non smettete mai di sognare perché i sogni spesso, molto spesso, si avverano!

Il mio augurio è quello di trascorrere il Nuovo Anno con le persone che amate in pace e serenità.

We left Florence for a short holiday in the Maldives.
After about six hours flying time we arrived in Dubai. A brief stop, before leaving to discover the beauty of the Indian Ocean.

To celebrate Robert’s birthday I decided to introduce him to these remote but exotic islands, their peoples, their shimmering colours…

I know it’s obvious, but let me say… children grow up too fast… Robert has become a man but it seems like only yesterday he was still a child and we spent our first Christmas in New York together.

Robert now lives and studies in London, I am very proud of him! His artistic talent, inherited from Mom and Dad, is brilliant… you should see how he designed his apartment in London… so much taste and creativity…

My life has always been inspired by colours, the colours of my native Florence, from the light yellow buildings with red tile roofs to the white, white marble of Carrara… the colours of the Tuscan countryside that change subtly but strikingly with the seasons, creating their own colour palettes in the manner of beautiful paintings.

My travels have taken me around the world where I discovered how man over the centuries has learned to mimic nature by creating fantastic combinations of colours… India, China, Bali are just some of the places which continue to inspire me…

The latest discovery, in chronological order, is the Indian Ocean and in particular the archipelago of the Maldives. Here I found a very special people living simply in intimate contact with nature and the surrounding ocean. A beautiful untouched nature that governs the rhythms of life and creates the atmosphere of a paradise on earth!

In these islands colours play an important role, giving you a sense of being immersed in a vibrant yet fragile dimension. They breathe new life into us and give us a joie de vivre…

I wanted to share this fantasy of colours with you and Robert…

[:it]412. La Moda è Colore, la Vita è Colore…

Abbiamo lasciato Firenze per una breve vacanza alle Maldive.
Dopo circa sei ore di volo siamo arrivati a Dubai. Una breve sosta prima di ripartire per scoprire le bellezze dell’oceano indiano.

Per festeggiare il compleanno di Robert ho deciso di fargli conoscere le bellezze di queste isole, i suoi abitanti, i suoi cangianti colori…

Lo so, è scontato, ma fatemelo dire… i figli crescono troppo velocemente… Robert è ormai diventato un uomo ma mi sembra ieri quando, ancora bambino, abbiamo trascorso insieme il nostro primo Natale a New York.

Oggi Robert vive e studia a Londra, sono fiero e orgoglioso di lui! Il suo estro artistico, ereditato da mamma e papà, è geniale… dovreste vedere come ha arredato il suo appartamento londinese… tanto gusto e creatività…

La mia vita è stata sempre ispirata dai colori, i colori della mia Firenze, dal giallo tenue dei palazzi ai rossi dei tetti passando attraverso i bianchi dei bianchi marmi di Carrara… i colori della campagna Toscana che variano al cambio delle stagioni creando tavolozze di colori come quadri d’autore.

I miei viaggi mi hanno portato in giro per il mondo dove ho scoperto come l’uomo nel corso dei secoli ha imparato a mimare la natura creando fantastici accostamenti di colori… l’India, la Cina, Bali sono solo alcuni dei luoghi che continuano ad ispirarmi…

L’ultima scoperta, in ordine temporale, è l’oceano indiano e in particolare l’arcipelago delle Maldive… qui ho incontrato persone molto speciali, gente semplice che vive in stretto contatto con la natura e l’oceano circostante. Una natura bellissima, incontaminata, una natura che regola i ritmi della vita e regala l’atmosfera di un paradiso terrestre!

In queste isole i colori giocano un ruolo fondamentale, si riceve l’impressione di vivere immersi in una dimensione diversa, i colori ci regalano la gioia di vivere…

Ho desiderato condividere questa fantasia di colori con voi e con Robert…
