217. I’m in Florence… Last Week of Work Before the Summer Holidays…

Although my second home is Milan, my heart is always in Florence and every time I go back I experience a new renaissance…

Florence is an incredibly beautiful city and she knows it, a prima donna, you cannot neglect her, and you should always show her how much you care… Florence knows how to listen to you and she gives you emotions that only a city with so much history, beauty and culture can offer…

Often when I walk in the narrow streets of the city I find myself thinking how much history has gone through these places… I imagine the women of the past dressed with the grace and taste that has always been at home here…

Every building, every door, every single brick has its own history… here in Florence you breathe the art of great artists… Brunelleschi… Leonardo da Vinci… Michelangelo… Giotto… Cimabue … Donatello… Masaccio… Botticelli…

Florence gave me so much and continues to do… every time I leave I already know that I cannot stay away from her for too long. I like to make her jealous… but she knows that it is a subtle play between lovers and she is waiting for me, patiently… always smiling… and every time she forgives me…!

It’s such a delight to see my grandchildren again, I wonder how they grow so fast…!

This is my last week in the office and I have to prepare the final details of the collections for the fashion shows in September, shorten that skirt… alter this accessory… change that color scheme…

I am fortunate to have great professionals by my side who seem to know how to read my thoughts… they are able to interpret my directions… each new collection is a recurring magic… months and months of work culminating in those fifteen minutes on the catwalk… the flashes… the applause… the interviews…

But now is the time to turn off switches… Italy stops, only for a moment, a short summer break. We shall go back to work in late August with a great desire to start again… in our great Italy, land of travelers, musicians and artists…

217. Sono a Firenze… Ultima Settimana di Lavoro Prima delle Vacanze…

Anche se ormai la mia seconda casa è Milano il mio cuore è sempre a Firenze e ogni volta che ci ritorno è un nuovo rinascimento…

Firenze è una città incredibilmente bella e sa di esserlo, una primadonna, non la puoi trascurare e devi sempre mostrarle il massimo delle attenzioni… ma Firenze ti sa ascoltare e ti regala quelle emozioni che solo una città con così tanta storia, bellezza e cultura può offrirti…

Spesso quando cammino nelle strette stradine del centro mi ritrovo a pensare a quanta storia è passata da questi luoghi… mi immagino le donne di altri tempi vestite con la grazia e il gusto che qui è sempre stato di casa…

Ogni palazzo, ogni portone, ogni singolo mattone qui ha la sua storia… a Firenze si respira l’arte dei grandi artisti… Brunelleschi… Leonardo da Vinci… Giotto… Michelangelo… Cimabue… Donatello… Masaccio… Botticelli…

Firenze mi ha dato tanto e continua a farlo… ogni volta che riparto so già che non potrò starle lontano per molto tempo, mi piace farla ingelosire… ma lei sa che è un sottile gioco fra innamorati e mi aspetta, paziente… sempre sorridente… e ogni volta mi perdona…!

È bello ritrovare i miei nipotini, chissà come faranno a crescere così velocemente…!

Questa è la mia ultima settimana in ufficio e devo preparare gli ultimi dettagli delle collezioni per le sfilate di Settembre, accorcia quella gonna… cambia quell’accessorio… modifica l’accostamento dei colori…

Ho la fortuna di avere al mio fianco dei grandi professionisti che sanno quasi leggere i miei pensieri… riescono a interpretare le mie indicazioni… ogni nuova collezione è una magia che si ripete… mesi e mesi di lavoro che culminano in quei quindici minuti sulla passerella… i flash dei fotografi… gli applausi… le interviste…

Ma ora è il momento di spegnere gli interruttori… l’Italia si ferma, solo per un istante, una piccola pausa estiva. Si riparte a fine Agosto con tanta voglia di ricominciare… in questa nostra grande Italia, terra di viaggiatori, musicisti e artisti…
