247. Where we Create Your Dreams…

Osmannoro is the name of the place where, many years ago, I decided to build the new premises for Roberto Cavalli… the previous headquarters was in Piazza d’Azeglio, in the heart of Florence. It was a fine building, with high ceilings and frescoes… but not best suited to the pace of growth we were experiencing. We had been working in a very tight space…

Osmannoro is located on the outskirts of Florence, in the municipality of Sesto Fiorentino – whose name dates back to Roman times and is derived from the fact that it is located six miles from Florence.

Osmannoro was the logical choice, even if leaving the center of Florence was a difficult decision at the time.
Easily accessible from Florence and surrounding areas via the nearby highway, Osmannoro was a sparsely populated area then and I remember wondering, at that time, if it was not too isolated…

Finally I could have all the space I wanted… an area where I could arrange the large drawing tables… a spacious office with a door that separated me from the printing area… it is now a place where I can express my creativity… mixing basic colors in an attempt to recreate those same colors used by God for this fantastic world…

I remember that as we moved into the new building everything seemed so big, roomy, maybe too big… we used to work elbow to elbow and now we had to use the phone to communicate…

Computers were only used by the administrative office, emails had not been invented and orders arrived by fax. But even at that early stage I started using computers and I had software designed for an Apple II computer that allowed us to calculate the material requirements to fulfill orders received during the fashion shows. In those days computers were relatively slow… it took a whole night to provide us with the details… but still much faster than the two weeks it normally took us to do the same work manually!

The technological development in recent years has allowed me to experiment much more with patterns and colors… speed up the creative process… simulate… create shapes and colors… create dream dresses for beautiful women with the most incredible colors in the universe…

Today, the Osmannoro factory seems to have become smaller… we have grown so much… and those six miles that separate Sesto from Florence have become a fully developed urban area…

Here, in the printing room, is where I can create and play around with the colors… the fabrics… the printing frames…

All my creations are made here in Florence, Italy, by seamstresses with a mastery of skills handed down from yesteryear… with such a unique precision and attention to detail… unrepeatable… every single dress is a work of art…

247. Qui si Creano i Vostri Sogni…

L’Osmannoro, questo è il nome della località dove tanti anni fa decisi di costruire i nuovi locali della Roberto Cavalli… la precedente sede era in Piazza d’Azeglio, nel cuore di Firenze.
I locali erano molto belli, con affreschi e alti soffitti… ma non più adatti ai ritmi di crescita che ci vedevano costretti a lavorare in spazi molto ristretti…

L’Osmannoro era la scelta più logica, anche se abbandonare il centro di Firenze era una decisione difficile. L’Osmannoro si trova alle porte di Firenze, nel comune di Sesto Fiorentino – il nome Sesto risale all’epoca degli antichi Romani e deriva dal fatto che si trova a sei miglia da Firenze.

Facilmente raggiungibile da Firenze e località limitrofe grazie alla vicina autostrada, l’Osmannoro era una zona scarsamente popolata e mi ricordo che ai tempi mi domandavo se non fosse una località troppo isolata…

Finalmente avrei potuto avere tutto lo spazio che desideravo… una zona dove poter sistemare i grandi tavoli da disegno… un ufficio spazioso con una porta che mi separava dalla stamperia… il luogo dove dare sfogo alla mia creatività… sperimentare… mischiare i colori di base per ricreare quelle stesse tonalità usate da Dio nel creare questo fantastico mondo…

Mi ricordo che appena ci siamo trasferiti nei nuovi locali tutto ci sembrava così grande, spazioso, eccessivo… eravamo abituati a lavorare gomito a gomito e ora dovevamo usare il telefono per comunicare…

I computer erano utilizzati soltanto dall’ufficio amministrativo, le email non erano ancora state inventate e gli ordini arrivavano via fax… ma già a quei tempi avevo fatto creare un programma per un computer Apple II che ci permetteva di calcolare i fabbisogni di materiali per l’evasione degli ordini raccolti durante le sfilate. Era molto lento, impiegava un’intera notte per elaborare i dati… ma era comunque molto più veloce delle due settimane che ci impiegavamo normalmente!

L’evoluzione tecnologica di questi ultimi anni mi ha permesso di sperimentare maggiormente con pattern e colori… velocizzare il processo creativo… simulare… creare forme e tonalità… creare abiti da sogno per vestire le donne con i più bei colori dell’universo…

Oggi la fabbrica dell’Osmannoro è diventata piccola… siamo cresciuti così tanto… e quelle sei miglia che separano Firenze da Sesto sono diventate area urbana…

Qui, nella stamperia, è dove posso sbizzarrirmi a creare con i colori… i tessuti… i telai da stampa…

Tutte le mie creazioni sono realizzate qui a Firenze, in Italia, da sarte con una maestria d’altri tempi… con una precisione e una cura dei particolari unica… irripetibile… ogni abito è una singola opera d’arte…
