[:en]Marcella con Roberto e Lietta Cavalli431. …Please, Mum, I think that with my creativity i can only go to an art school!

Mum decided to trust me once more. She hugged me and let me understand how much she loved me.

I decided to enrol at the Arts Institute in Florence. I could choose among painting, graphics, photography, and many other courses.
It was the right school for me. I immediately felt an injection of energy and drive! I had found my ideal environment at last.

There was little to study, we had mostly to use our creativity: it was my kingdom! Subjects implying a lot of studying, e.g. Literature, which I couldn’t stand, almost didn’t exist. We spent most of the time drawing, painting, designing.

I liked that shabby place, the former «Royal Stables», situated in a fantastic park at the foot of Piazzale Michelangelo. Porta Romana was the other end of the avenue leading to Piazzale Michelangelo. It was one of the points from which you could enjoy a breath-taking view of Florence. Next to it was one of the most beautiful churches in the world San Miniato al Monte that dominated the hill and the town with its Gothic-Byzantine façade and which glittered like gold when lit by rays of sunshine.

The gallery of plaster casts was the nicest part of the school. We spent many hours a week in it. I liked portraying the white heads of the Roman Emperors, parts of the human body and animal skeletons. It all helped understand and learn proportion.

Looking at those big blank, rough paper sheets, holding those soft-pointed pencils, shading off black into grey: all that made me happy. I was creating something with my hands. I had found something I really liked and that could catch my attention at last!

Another subject was called laboratory That Lab was my world. I started with Batik, an ancient Asian printing-dyeing technique using liquid wax. I was very interested in learning silk-screen printing of fabrics. I learned the chemical and technical characteristics of many different dyes. The most versatile and subtle are pigments. I was passionate and satisfied with my choice. I improved as I progressed.

For the first time ever my results at school were very good!

I LOVE YOU!

[:it]Marcella con Roberto e Lietta Cavalli431.

Decisi d’iscrivermi all’Istituto d’Arte di Firenze.

I LOVE YOU

I love your school! You were able to experience having all those creative juices in one place. The way you described it made me wished I took Arts back in college. It seems so dreamy and magical. If you are passionate about something the results will always be very good. Glad your Mum trusted your love and talent. Have a great day! xx
