We arrived in New Delhi in the evening… a four and a half hour time difference.  I was very happy to leave for this trip.   The last few days in Florence and Milan were very intense… collections and small problems… even Eva has been increasingly occupied with such commitments… her admiration and esteem have always been my drug to create and feel full of life!

I drop off the suitcase at the hotel and make a short tour of the mega suite that I shall be staying in… incredibly large and luxurious… a unique experience.  The second room is for my daughter Cristiana and her husband Francesco.

Roberto Cavalli CommunicationThe journey begins in the best way!  We came to New Delhi for the opening of the new boutique and the Cavalli Caffè which is connected to the boutique.  The entire Cavalli communication crew has accompanied me on this new adventure, Massimo Veneziano, Benedetta, Sylvia, Gregoire and Michele.

The first meeting takes place in a typical Indian restaurant in New Delhi to which we were invited soon after our arrival!  A special and traditional restaurant. It’s strange being in a place so different after just a few hours of travel.  A land of so many different cultures and culinary traditions… so different from what we are used to.  Lots of meat, many sauces, very spicy… a huge piece of freshly baked Indian bread is in the center of the table, very good. I satisfied my appetite!

My desire now is to dive into the big bed in the mega room and sleep as long as possible…

The next day will be full of events of all kinds.  I shall be in great shape!  Wake up call at 9, which for the timezone and my Italian habits corresponds to half past four in the morning… a cold shower gives me a little charge!

Roberto Cavalli LimousineA long white limousine takes us to the entrance of the shopping center where the new boutique is located.  An hour’s drive through the town, crazy traffic jams!  We are in the queue at every traffic light with motorbikes whizzing all around us.  It is not possible to keep the window open.   At each stop many small children and older people demand a coin… it is on these occasions that you experience the India of the movie “Millionaire.”

Upon our arrival many photographers are waiting for us, I feel like a rock star again… after a visit to the new boutique and the coffee shop we go to a VIP room, again… so many journalists and TV Stations… fun but tiring!  So many questions! I like to answer with different answers… a kind word… a compliment to all… I shine in my enjoyment of India!

Roberto Cavalli at the fabric marketBefore returning to the hotel I want to stop in a small market of Indian fabrics.  I am not familiar with their currency, the Indian Rupee.  I merely observe and hear the prayers of the vendors and children who insistently asked for alms.

One hour of deep rest before getting ready for a “very special” evening I will tell you about tomorrow…

Siamo arrivati a New Delhi la sera… quatto ore e mezzo di differenza di fuso orario.  Ero molto felice di partire, gli ultimi giorni a Firenze e Milano sono stati molto intensi… collezioni e piccoli problemi… anche Eva è sempre più presa dagli impegni…  la sua ammirazione e stima sono sempre state la mia droga per creare e sentirmi pieno di vita!

Il tempo di lasciare le valige in hotel, ammirare la mega suite che mi ospita… incredibilmente grande e lussuosa… un’esperienza unica. La seconda camera ospita mia figlia Cristiana con il marito Francesco.

Siamo partiti da Milano per l’inaugurazione della nuova boutique e del Cavalli Caffè collegato alla boutique.  Tutta la troupe della comunicazione Cavalli mi ha accompagnato in questa nuova avventura, Massimo Veneziano, Benedetta, Silvya, Gregoire e Michele.

Il primo meeting si è svolto in un tipico ristorante indiano a New Delhi, dove siamo stati invitati subito dopo il nostro arrivo!
Un ristorante speciale e tradizionale.  È strano ritrovarsi in un luogo così diverso dopo poche ore di viaggio.  Una terra così ricca di culture diverse e tradizioni culinarie. Tanta carne, tanti sughi, veramente piccanti. Un enorme forma di pane appena sfornato al centro del tavolo, molto buono. Ho saziato il mio appetito!

Il mio desiderio ora è di tuffarmi nel grande letto della mega camera e dormire più tempo possibile…

Il giorno seguente sarà pieno di appuntamenti di ogni tipo, dovrò essere in gran forma! Sveglia alle 9 che per il fuso orario e le mie abitudini italiane, corrispondevano alle 4 e mezzo di mattina… una doccia fredda mi ha ridato un po’ di carica!

Roberto Cavalli LimousineUna lunghissima limousine bianca ci ha accompagnato davanti all’ingresso del centro commerciale che ospita la nuova boutique. Un’ora di viaggio attraverso la città, un traffico pazzesco!  Siamo in coda a ogni semaforo con i motorini che sfrecciano da tutte le parti. Non è possibile tenere il finestrino aperto, ad ogni fermata tanti piccoli ragazzi e persone meno giovani che chiedono una moneta, è in queste occasioni che ti appare l’India del film “Milionaire”.

Al nostro arrivo ci attendono tanti fotografi, mi sono sentito di nuovo una rock star… dopo una visita al caffè e alla boutique mi accompagnano nella VIP room, dove mi attendendono tanti giornalisti e televisioni, divertente ma stancante! Tante domande alle quali desidero sempre dare una risposta diversa… una parola gentile… un complimento per tutti… traspare la mia gioia di essere in India!

Roberto Cavalli at the fabric marketPrima di rientrare in albergo ho voluto farmi accompagnare in un piccolo mercato di tessuti Indiani. Non mi sono ancora ambientato con loro moneta, la Rupia Indiana. Mi sono limitato a osservare e ascoltare le preghiere dei venditori e dei bambini che chiedevano insistentemente l’elemosina.

Un’ora di profondo riposo prima dei preparativi per una serata “Specialissima”, che desidero raccontarvi domani…

Before starting again to talk about the book I’m writing, I want you, who follow my Blog, to be closer to me with your thoughts, tell me what are the stories that matter most to you, the ones that you like and bind you more.

Sometimes I am afraid of boring you. I want you as friends, I want you to know everything that goes on inside my head… my thoughts… my principles… my uneasiness…

In one of my last posts I expressed my ideas on a political fact that held Italy in suspense, waiting for an important result. I was nervous too, feeling the very hardships that my Italy is suffering!  It’s a problem that I feel so keenly that I would sacrifice my life if I knew I could solve the problems of so many…

Do you want to know from me only about the days I spend in fashion? Most of the time I spend is at my desk, drawing… thinking… browsing… I have not much to tell you!  Then, in the evening, before going to sleep, not wishing to describe the mundane matters of my day, in which you might have no interest, or the meetings of the  board of directors, I am instead talking about myself… of my thoughts… of all that has grown up with me and made me who I am!

Roberto CavalliI think, to better understand me, to be able to find an opening to get into my head, you should know my life. A long life so full of adventures that the few friends to whom I have read my memoirs, have asked me “but is it all true…?”

I think I’ve lived a thousand years, my experience and my desire to know… to live… maybe goes beyond two thousand years!

I’ve never sought success as such, it is as though success needed me.  I like to create, to be different… to invent… for the great pleasure of seeing the results.  I’ve never worked, lived or created to make money. The gain is a result that gives you the size of how you are working. If your time is well spent or is wasted!

There have been times when I have wished that everything I did and made in fashion had gone unnoticed.  Success becomes addictive… it binds you… it is never enough. It can ruin the sound principles that your family has taught you and impacts upon the family that you have created with love!

I was lucky enough not to have had success in my youth, my age and my wisdom helped me to not succumb completely!

I feel sorry for the many young people, young singers for example, who manage to gain the crowds! I wonder what will be the result of this on the rest of their lives.

My book, “MY ADVENTURE” will let you know Roberto Cavalli, for many of you a myth…

Prima di rincominciare a parlarvi del libro che sto scrivendo, desidero sapere da voi che mi seguite attraverso il Blog per essere vicini a me con i vostri pensieri, quali sono i racconti che v’interessano maggiormente, che vi piacciono e che vi avvincono di più.

Talvolta ho timore di annoiarvi, ma se vi desidero come amici, mi piace che conosciate tutto ciò che gira dentro la mia testa… pensieri… principi… turbamenti…

In uno dei miei ultimi post ho espresso le mie idee su un fatto politico che ha tenuto l’Italia in suspense, in attesa di un importante risultato. Ero nervoso anch’io, percepisco molto le traversie che la mia Italia sta subendo!  È un problema che sento a tal punto, che sacrificherei la vita, se sapessi di poter risolvere i problemi di tanti…

Desiderate conoscere da me esclusivamente le giornate che dedico alla moda? Molte le trascorro alla mia scrivania a disegnare… pensare… sfogliare… non ho molto da raccontarvi! Quindi, la sera, prima di addormentarmi, non potendovi descrivere la mia giornata, per voi poco interessante, o le problematiche di un consiglio di amministrazione vi parlo di me… dei miei pensieri… di tutto ciò che è cresciuto con me!

Roberto CavalliCredo, che per capirmi, per poter trovare un varco per entrare nella mia testa, dovreste conoscere la mia vita. Una lunga vita piena di avventure, al punto tale che, ai pochi amici a quali ho fatto leggere le mie memorie, mi hanno chiesto “ma, è tutto vero…?”

Credo di aver vissuto mille anni, forse la mia esperienza, il mio desiderio di conoscere… di vivere… va oltre i due mila anni!

Non  ho mai cercato il successo, è stato il successo che ha avuto bisogno di me. Mi è piaciuto creare, essere diverso… inventare… per il gran piacere di  vedere il risultato. Non ho mai lavorato, creato o vissuto per guadagnare. Il guadagno è il risultato che ti da la dimensione di come stai operando. Se il tuo tempo è speso bene o e sprecatoooooo!

Avrei  desiderato che tutto ciò che ho fatto e realizzato per la moda fosse passato inosservato.  Il successo diventa una droga, che ti avvince e non basta mai. Rovina i sani principi che la tua famiglia ti ha trasmesso e rovina la famiglia che hai creato con amore e unione!

Ho avuto la fortuna di non aver avuto il mio successo in gioventù, la mia età e la mia saggezza mi hanno aiutato a non soccombere completamente!

Tanti giovani, giovanissimi, cantanti che riescono a conquistare le folle mi fanno pena! Immagino quale sarà il seguito della loro vita.

Il mio libro, “LA MIA AVVENTURA” vi farà conoscere Roberto Cavalli, per molti di voi un mito…

I could write a book on the book of my life…!

I often wonder why and how I came by this desire to write a book. It all started many years ago with a Spanish writer, a very good one, who had written several books on fashion.  I had liked his style, I felt he would be able to interpret the personal aspects of my life… difficult but carefree… a young boy searching for himself and for a door through which to enter into life!

We meet in my little apartment in Paris…I close the windows to better remember and concentrate.  He listens to me in silence and records… he does not interrupt me for fear of breaking my spontaneity and the almost psychological atmosphere that exists between us.

I am talking… and talking… when I touch upon areas that are particularly difficult and sad I become so emotional that I often start crying.  He feels that the reason for my desire to tell… to let someone to know so much that I keep hidden  inside me!

After about two months he showed me some pages he had written.  I was very disappointed!  I was confused.  I was curious to know how my writer had interpreted my emotions.  Maybe he wanted to hear me speak of different matters… different from what I had told him.

Fashion has been my passion, an important part of my adventure, but it was only a consequence of a wish to prove to myself… my artistic abilities.  I found the creativity in the colors… in the designs on the fabrics… it was a direction I took so as to be able to express my art!

I immediately interrupted our meetings and, for a long time, I abandoned the idea of ​​telling how a boy, born in the suburbs of Florence of a family full of love and debts, had managed to break through the barrier of success. A national and international success… how he became a small Rock Star of fashion!

With will and determination, without compromising in the fashion world, taking only great ideas for change!

Roberto CavalliA few years later, during a long plane trip, to kill the time and the boredom, I started writing on my inseparable Nokia… notes and short stories that flashed at that moment through my mind. I began to enjoy myself. With each trip came an inspiration to write. My Nokia 9210 Communicator was my little computer. I wrote my book as if each chapter was a long SMS… a long short-message! I sent them to my friend Sandra who gathered them in her computer…

And so “MY ADVENTURE”, the story of my life, began…

I still have many things to tell you… I’ll leave them for next time!

Potrei scrivere un libro sul… libro della mia vita!

Mi chiedo spesso perché mi è venuto questo desiderio di scrivere un libro. Tutto è iniziato diversi anni fa con uno scrittore spagnolo, molto bravo, aveva scritto alcuni libri sulla moda e ne avevo apprezzato lo stile. Lo ritenevo capace di poter interpretare umanamente la vita, difficile ma spensierata, di un ragazzo alla ricerca di se stesso e di una porta per entrare nella vita!

Ci si incontrava nel mio piccolo appartamento di Parigi, chiudevo le finestre per meglio ricordare e concentrarmi.   Lui mi ascoltava in silenzio e registrava, non mi interrompeva per il timore di infrangere la mia spontaneità e quell’atmosfera quasi psicologica che si era creata fra di noi.

Parlavo… parlavo… quando entravo in particolari difficili e tristi mi ci immedesimavo talmente che spesso piangevo. Lui percepiva, da certi momenti, la ragione del mio desiderio di raccontare… di far conoscere a qualcuno tante cose che tenevo dentro di me!

Dopo circa due mesi mi mostrò alcune pagine che aveva scritto.  Ne rimasi molto deluso! Ero confuso, ero curioso di conoscere come il mio scrittore aveva interpretato le mie emozioni.  Forse il mio scrittore desiderava ascoltare argomenti diversi da quelli che io gli avevo raccontato.

La moda è stata una mia passione, una parte importante della mia avventura, ma è stata solo una conseguenza per dimostrare a me stesso le mie capacità artistiche. Trovai nella creatività dei colori e nei disegni sui tessuti una direzione per riuscire a esprimere la mia arte!

Interruppi subito i nostri incontri, e per lungo tempo ho abbandonato l’idea di raccontare come, un ragazzo, nato nella periferia fiorentina da una famiglia piena di amore e di debiti, era riuscito a infrangere la barriera del successo. Un successo nazionale e internazionale, diventare una piccola Rock Star della moda!

Con volontà e determinazione, senza scendere a compromessi con il sistema moda, portando solo grandi idee di cambiamento!

Roberto CavalliDopo qualche anno, durante un lungo viaggio aereo, per combattere il tempo e la noia, ho incominciato a scrivere sul mio inseparabile Nokia appunti e piccole storie che in quel momento balenavano nella mia mente. Incominciai a divertirmi. Ogni mio viaggio diventò l’ispirazione per scrivere.  Il mio telefono Nokia Comunicator  9210 era il mio piccolo computer. Scrivevo il mio libro, come se ogni capitolo fosse un lungo SMS… un lungo messaggino! Li inviavo alla mia amica Sandra che li raccoglieva nel suo computer…

Ed è così che “LA MIA AVVENTURA”, la storia della mia vita, ebbe inizio…

Ho ancora tante cose da raccontarvi… le lascio per la prossima volta!
