97. What a Beautiful Day!

A nice warm sun, blue sky… almost turquoise.
I love watching the colors… trying to interpret them, they are an important part of my life!

I had an intense day of work. I’m going through a period of great strength… of great vitality. Looking back, it seems to me that I had dozed off in the last two or three years. My collections were beautiful, but I wasn’t completely satisfied. It was mainly that the Just Cavalli did not express exactly what I wanted to say! Because of recent history of the Just Cavalli line, which I have discussed in the post N.88, this line had not received as much of my attention as it deserved!

Now I have the reins firmly in my hands… I can feel its potential.

My last meeting for today is over… I decide to run away…to recharge my batteries while walking in the center of my beautiful Florence … I want to blend in with the tourists, to enjoy seeing the city afresh through their eyes!

I have an electric car… wonderful… it allows me to go in certain areas that are forbidden to vehicles… easy to park. I like to walk, to look around…

I am in the center of the Ponte Vecchio.. some tourists recognize me… they are taking some photos without being noticed … the Arno is flowing under me … some oarsman is rowing fast… I envy him… I never did row… but I have often wished… on a wonderful sunny like today… on a cloudy day… in the rain…

Wonderful sensations that are missing from my “collection”! There are many, many things I have wanted to do… well… there are lots I have done…! “Roberto, do not play the victim…!”

Piazza Signoria… many, many tourists… many pigeons…! I pause to browse through the stalls in the Piazza della Repubblica… with their bags… purses… statues of David… many souvenirs!

A ray of golden sunlight reflecting on the carousel, full of ponies… blinds me for a few seconds… I see Via de’ Tornabuoni, in the distance, the fashion street of Florence… in truth it was… but an odd by-law from the city has closed this road to vehicles… and now a vibrant shopping street is becoming deserted… only Gucci and Cavalli resist… stores are closing… IT IS TOO BAD… IT IS SHORT SIGHTED!

Next to my boutique I opened a small coffee shop, Caffe Giacosa. Why this name? It’s a Florentine story that I plan to tell you tomorrow.

All tables are full and I wait to be able to sit quietly and enjoy my usual drink, a Spritz! At last! My little bar is very special, classic, but very Cavalli…

I hope to have conveyed to you my love… for colors… for my city… for life!

97. Che Bella Giornata!

Un sole non caldissimo e un cielo blue… quasi turchese. Mi piace guardare i colori… cercare di interpretarli, sono parte importante della mia vita!

Ho avuto una giornata intensissima di lavoro. Sto attraversando un periodo di grande forza… di grande vitalità. Se mi guardo indietro, mi sembra di essermi assopito negli ultimi due tre anni. Le mie collezioni erano bellissime, ma non mi rendevano soddisfatto, principalmente Just Cavalli, non esprimeva tutto quello che avrei voluto dire! Come vi ho già raccontato nel mio post N.88 la linea Just Cavalli non ha ricevuto la mia dovuta attenzione!

Ora ho le redini saldamente nelle mie mani… e ne posso sentire il potenziale.

Ho finito il mio ultimo meeting per oggi e ho deciso di correre via, vado a ricaricarmi le batterie passeggiando nel centro della mia meravigliosa Firenze… voglio unirmi ai turisti, godere con loro delle bellezze della mia città!

Ho una macchinina elettrica, stupenda, che mi permette di andare anche nelle zone pedonali… facile da parcheggiare. Mi piace camminare, guardarmi intorno…

Sono al centro di Ponte Vecchio… qualche turista mi riconosce… mi scatta qualche foto senza farsi notare… l’Arno scorre sotto di me… qualche canottiere rema velocemente… lo invidio… non l’ho mai fatto… ma l’ho spesso desiderato… con un sole meraviglioso come oggi… con il cielo nuvoloso… sotto la pioggia…

Meravigliose sensazioni che mancano alla mia “collezione”! Sono tante, tantissime le cose che avrei voluto fare… beh… sono tantissime anche quelle che ho fatto…! “Roberto, non fare la vittima…!”

Piazza Signoria… tanti, tanti turisti… tanti piccioni…! Mi soffermo a guardare i barroccini di Piazza della Repubblica… borse, borsellini… tante statuine del David… tanti oggetti ricordo!

Un raggio di sole che riflette sulla giostra dorata, piena di cavallini… mi acceca per qualche secondo… vedo in lontananza Via de’ Tornabuoni, la strada fashion di Firenze… in verità lo era… una strana ordinanza comunale l’ha chiusa al traffico… è diventata una strada deserta… solo Gucci e Cavalli resistono… gli altri negozi stanno chiudendo… È UN VERO PECCATO!

Roberto Cavalli - Caffe Giacosa Accanto al mio negozio ho aperto un piccolo caffè, il Caffe Giacosa. Perché questo nome? E’ una storia tutta fiorentina che mi riprometto di raccontarvi domani.

Tutti i tavolini sono pieni e aspetto di potermi sedere tranquillamente, con il mio solito aperitivo, uno Spritz! Finalmente si libera un tavolo! Il mio piccolo bar è molto speciale, classico, ma molto Cavalli…

Mi auguro di avervi trasmesso il mio amore per i colori… per la mia città… per la vita!

96. For Us the Real Celebration is Robin’s Graduation…

96. For us the real celebration is Robin’s graduation and I will devote all my attention and my blog to that!

I booked a good table for a dinner in the best Japanese restaurant in London, Zuma! I know Zuma because it is also one of the best restaurants in Dubai. I love Japanese food!

Mom, Dad and our fragile and excited bambino now grown into a man! The dinner is excellent… not too much… every dish is delicious! Sushi and sashimi… the highest standards! After supper… off to bed to be ready for tomorrow… the big day! Robin is a little apprehensive… wants a little time to himself!

The Big Day. A light rain in London, I was saddened when I opened the windows of my room. The sun and the warmth of Italy were only in my heart. Robin and Eva Cavalli

For a few hours I quit my beloved jeans… dark gray pants and a tight black jacket with tuxedo type lapels… a nice black shirt with soft leopard inlays and a black satin tie… elegant! Robin will be proud of me. Eva is very beautiful and special! The journey to the college at Cobham seems long… indescribable traffic… five days of holidays and big celebrations in London for the Queen’s Jubilee.

The school’s gym has been prepared for the ceremony. The presentation of the diplomas! 137 young men and women of about eighteen years of age wearing their gray scarves and graduation gowns. Their stylish hats are caps with a hard square upper part. These ceremonies are a British classic that until now I have only seen in the movies!

I found the very entry of the students to be very emotional for me. I could not restrain a few tears that I tried to hide under my dark glasses!

Robin was beautiful, handsome. I watched him throughout the entire ceremony to enter his heart and feel with him all his sensations!

After the ceremonial speeches of the professors and students, it is finally time for the presentation of the diplomas. One at a time, as the speaker announces their names, each student steps forward… a souvenir photo is taken of each one receiving his or her diploma… all of this with the applause of all present and the whoops and screams of all the other students.

Wonderful! What a thrill! Many a tear! A final special, one… two… three… and all the students throw their hats in the air!

Applause… screams of joy… Thanks Robin… my love, you gave me great big emotions!

96. La vera incoronazione è quella di Robin e gli voglio dedicare tutta la mia attenzione e il mio blog!

Ho prenotato un buon tavolo per la cena nel miglior ristorante giapponese di Londra, Zuma! Lo conosco bene poiché è anche uno dei migliori ristoranti di Dubai. Adoro la cucina giapponese!

Mamma, Babbo e il nostro fragile ed emozionato bambino, ormai diventato grande! La cena è stata eccellente… non eccessiva… ogni piatto era buonissimo! Sushi e sashimi di alto livello! Finita la cena subito a letto… dobbiamo essere pronti per l’evento di domani! Robin è nervoso e pensieroso… desidera restare con se stesso!

Ho abbandonato per qualche ora il mio adorato jeans… pantaloni grigio scuro e una giacca nera attillata con i revers tipo smoking… una bella camicia nera con intarsi soft leopardati e una cravatta di raso nero… elegantissimo! Robin sarà fiero di me. Eva è molto bella e speciale! Il viaggio per arrivare al college nella cittadina di Cobham sembra così lungo… traffico indescrivibile… cinque giorni di Holiday e grandi festeggiamenti a Londra per il giubileo della Regina.

La palestra della scuola era stata preparata per accogliere la cerimonia per la consegna dei diplomi! 137 ragazzi di diciotto anni con una lunga mantella nera, una sciarpa grigia e il cappello alto nero rigido e quadrato nella parte alta, classico per queste cerimonie inglesi, che fino ad oggi avevo visto solo nei film! Con Eva siamo riusciti ad accaparrarci un posto in prima fila, ottima postazione per fare tante foto e un po’ di filmini ricordo!

L’ingresso degli studenti è stato emozionante. Non sono riuscito a trattenere qualche lacrima che ho tentato di nascondere sotto i miei occhiali scuri!

Robin era bellissimo. L’ho guardato per tutto il tempo della cerimonia per entrare nel suo cuore e percepire ogni sua sensazione!

Dopo i discorsi di professori e studenti è finalmente giunto il momento della consegna dei diplomi. Uno per volta, mentre l’altoparlante annuncia il loro nome, gli studenti salgono sul palco… una foto ricordo tra gli applausi e le urla di tutti gli altri ragazzi.

Meraviglioso! Che emozione! Un finale speciale, uno… due… tre… e tutti gli studenti gettano il cappello in aria!

Applausi… urla di gioia… Grazie Robin… amore mio, mi hai dato un’emozione grande grande!

95. I Cannot Close my Eyes…

95. I cannot close my eyes… I am so tired… it has been a long and exciting day. I hug my pillow… but am kept awake by a great desire to describe my two days in London.

I arrive late in the morning, just in time to run to the hotel, have a quick shower, then run to my first appointment. The Arts Club, a Mayfair private members Club, founded in 1863, now converted to a Club and Restaurant with a cozy garden, ideal for business meetings.

I am here to meet one of the most promising young English designers. I think I can use some additional help and this young designer, much admired by the press, may be able to help me. I can then devote more time to those lines which will benefit most from my presence! A very interesting interview… my only concern is that it is not easy to enter the “fantasy” world of Roberto Cavalli!

TAXIIIIIIIII! A pink taxi decorated in all the colors of the rainbow stops in front of me… “SLOANE STREET PLEASE”… I’m going to my boutique… I have meetings with six other designers… students of the Royal College who finished school this year… sometimes, with a little luck, it is possible to find a genius… Alexander McQueen attended the same school!

Infinite traffic…it is the Queen’s Jubilee. It is the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. All London is decked with flags, buntings and all the windows of the shops are decorated for the big occasion. Harrods, in particular, has invited all stylists and jewelers to create a crown with which it can celebrate this event. I created one in my own style. Harrods graciously dedicated a window display to me!

The really personal reason for my visit to London is for Eva and I to attend the graduation ceremony of our son Robert whom we named Robin at birth.

He completed his last year at the American School, Cobham.
Although English is not his mother tongue he is quite fluent and performed exceptionally well.

Tomorrow I will tell you how emotional this was for me!

95. Non riesco a chiudere gli occhi… sono molto stanco, è stata una giornata lunga ed emozionante. Sono già abbracciato al mio cuscino ma mi è venuta una gran voglia di descrivervi i miei due giorni a Londra.

Sono arrivato alla fine della mattinata, solo il tempo di correre all’hotel, una doccia superveloce. Il mio primo appuntamento è all’Arts Club, nel cuore di Mayfair, un Club privato fondato nel 1863 ora convertito in Club e Ristorante con un accogliente giardino, ideale per meeting di lavoro.

L’appuntamento è con uno dei più promettenti fra i giovani designers inglesi. Credo di aver bisogno di un aiuto e questo giovane stilista, molto amato dalla stampa, potrebbe aiutarmi.
In questo modo potrei avere più tempo da dedicare a quelle linee che possono beneficiare della mia attenzione! Il colloquio è stato molto interessante… il mio unico timore è che non è facile inserirsi nel “fantastico” mondo di Roberto Cavalli!

TAXIIIIIIIII! Un taxi pink con scritte di tutti i colori mi si ferma davanti… “SLOANE STREET PLEASE”… sto andando alla mia boutique… ho appuntamento con altri sei designers… studenti del Royal College che hanno finito la scuola quest’anno… talvolta, con un po’ di fortuna, è possibile trovare dei geni… anche Alexander McQueen ha frequentato la stessa scuola!

Traffico infinito… è il Jubilee della Regina. È il 60 anniversario dell’incoronazione della Regina Elisabetta. Tutta Londra è imbandierata e le vetrine di tutti i negozi sono decorate per la grande occasione. Harrods ha invitato tutti gli stilasti e gioiellieri a creare una corona con cui celebrare questo evento. Ne ho creata una con il mio stile. Harrods mi ha gentilente dedicato un’intera vetrina!

La vera ragione della mia visita a Londra è per partecipare con Eva alla cerimonia per il conseguimento della Maturità di nostro figlio Robert, che noi chiamiamo Robin fin dalla nascita.

Quest’anno ha frequentato l’ultimo anno presso l’American School, nel college di Cobham. Nonostante l’inglese non sia la sua madrelingua è stato bravissimo.

Domani vi racconterò tutta la mia emozione!
