224. The Jewels of the Mediterranean Sea…
After Sicily we continued our journey to the islands of Pantelleria and the Aeolian Islands, the jewels of the Mediterranean…
The island of Pantelleria is located about one hundred kilometers away from Sicily and only seventy kilometers from the coast of the African continent. The origin of Pantelleria is volcanic and fumaroles of steam are still active. The landscape is scarred by past eruptions… the terrain surrounding the Mirror of Venus, a lake formed in the crater of a volcano and fed by underground hot springs, is very surreal…
Pantelleria produces one of the most exquisite dessert wines, the exclusive Passito di Pantelleria… a DOC wine with a golden color, embodying all the energy of the sun… The name comes from the method by which this wine is made. In fact, the grapes are left to “wilt” on the vine beyond the normal vesting period to soak up every ray of sunshine… the result of this process is a nectar that gives off, at every sip, the intense aroma of this magical island…
The very colors of the Mediterranean palpably envelop us during our wanderings… God amazes me with his creations… colors changing subtly, softly, every hour of the day… soft at dawn, strong and violent during the day, sweet and relaxing at sunset… I love these colors, these hues… from pastel to deep green to infinite blue to golden yellow… colors that fit every situation perfectly and frame the beauty of these fabled islands…
The powerful engines of the Bat-Zodiac allow us to reach our next destination quickly. We left Pantelleria and continued our journey to discover more of these jewels. We headed towards the Aeolian archipelago, which comprises seven islands, Alicudi, Filicudi, Lipari, Panarea, Salina, Stromboli and Vulcano. Stromboli and Vulcano are the home of two active volcanoes. Small islets and rock outcroppings close to the surface surround the islands making navigation very difficult…
Some dolphins meet us and accompany us for a short period… they perform acrobatics worthy of acrobats of the Cirque du Soleil… what spectacular animals…

Every time I return to these places I experience them anew… every time is a new adventure. One of my ancestors must have been a navigator, an explorer, so strong is my passion for the sea. A passion that drives me to discover and rediscover every corner of our beautiful planet…

Dopo la Sicilia abbiamo proseguito il nostro viaggio alla volta di Pantelleria e delle isole Eolie, i gioielli del Mediterraneo…
L’isola di Pantelleria si trova a circa cento kilometri dalla Sicilia e a soli settanta kilometri dalle coste del continente Africano. L’origine di Pantelleria è vulcanica con soffioni di vapore attivi e un paesaggio caratterizzato dalle passate eruzioni… molto surreale è inoltre il paesaggio che circonda lo Specchio di Venere, un lago formato nel cratere di un vulcano e alimentato dalle acque termali che provengono dal sottosuolo…
Pantelleria produce uno dei più squisiti vini da dessert, l’esclusivo Passito di Pantelleria… un vino DOC il cui colore dorato racchiude in se tutta l’energia del sole… Il nome deriva dal metodo con cui questo vino viene prodotto, infatti gli acini vengono fatti “appassire” sulla pianta oltre il normale periodo di maturazione per assorbire fino all’ultimo raggio di sole… il risultato di questo processo è un nettare che sprigiona ad ogni sorso gli intensi aromi di questa magica isola…
I colori del Mediterraneo ci accompagnano durante il nostro girovagare… ogni volta Dio riesce a stupirmi con le sue creazioni… colori cangianti a ogni ora del giorno, tenui all’alba, forti e violenti durante il giorno, dolci e rilassanti al tramonto… adoro questi colori… dal verde intenso al blu infinito al giallo dorato… colori che si adattano in modo perfetto ad ogni situazione incorniciando le bellezze di queste isole…
I potenti motori del Bat-Gommone ci permettono di raggiungere velocemente la nostra prossima destinazione. Lasciamo Pantelleria e continuiamo il nostro viaggio alla scoperta dei gioielli del Mediterraneo in direzione dell’arcipelago delle Eolie formato da sette isole, Alicudi, Filicudi, Lipari, Panarea, Salina, Stromboli e Vulcano. Stromboli e Vulcano ospitano due vulcani ancora attivi. Le isole sono circondate da piccoli isolotti e scogli che affiorando in superfice rendono la navigazione particolarmente difficile…
Incrociamo alcuni delfini che ci accompagnano per un breve periodo compiendo delle acrobazie degne di un acrobata del Cirque du Soleil… che animali spettacolari…
