123. Cavallo, the Most Beautiful Island in the Mediterranean!

If you do not believe me you should check it out for yourself… a natural paradise… a large swimming pool with salt water… the color of the water is indescribable… tour agencies try to attract customers by evoking the colors of the Caribbean islands or the islands west of Africa…

Cavallo has no rivals! It is Corsican… French territory… but full of Italians… At first it was difficult… about fifteen years ago, with the early development and the attempt to create a new small Costa Smeralda…

The Corsicans did not always react well to these new developments and there were reprisals against some of the buildings occasionally involving the use of explosives! Perhaps they were right… part of the mistake was in not using local labor. These difficulties lasted several years…

The construction of the buildings was entrusted to Italian companies, often clumsy and ruthless, which did not always have an easy life and some came to a very bad end!

Then the situation became even more complicated… the first beautiful villas built on the island were owned by Italian politicians or middlemen, many of whom where involved in the Italian “Clean Hands anti-corruption investigations” in the late eighties.

Cavallo almost became a refuge for many but its special beauty turned the focus away from these people to the island’s God-given beauty…!

At that time I had a small boat with two cabins and I was persuaded to buy a place… a moorage in the small boat harbor under construction… the port was never completed, but those few square meters of sea that I bought made me happy…

Each year I spent the month of August with my family camped in the small boat dock… that wooden dock, resting on a strip of sea between the cliffs smoothed by water and wind, has witnessed my children growing up… Daniele and Robin learned to swim in these natural paradise pools! Rachele matured into a fine young lady in the beauty of this natural setting…

Cavallo is an island of freedom… only small electric cars are allowed on the island… young people can run around with many friends of the same age… and, even if they shouldn’t, use these golf carts to get around the island… driving them as if they were Ferrari’s!

An island that makes you forget everyday problems, away from television and politics… Cavallo is a magical island!

123. Cavallo, la più Bella Isola del Mediterraneo!

Se non ci credete, dovete andarci… un paradiso naturale! Una grande piscina con acqua salata… il colore dell’acqua è indescrivibile… le agenzie turistiche cercano di attirare i clienti evocando i colori caraibici o quelli delle isole a ovest dell’Africa…

Cavallo non ha rivali! È francese solo geograficamente, gli italiani se ne sono impossessati a dispetto dei Corsi… all’inizio è stato difficile… circa quindici anni fa, con le prime costruzioni e il tentativo di dare forma a una nuova piccola Costa Smeralda…

I Corsi non hanno reagito molto bene e ci sono state rappresaglie con uso di esplosivi per distruggere le nuove costruzioni! Forse, avevano ragione, lo sbaglio è stato quello di non usare manodopera locale… queste azioni di rappresaglia sono durate diversi anni…

La realizzazione dei fabbricati era stata affidata a imprese italiane, maldestre e senza scrupoli… non hanno avuto vita facile e sono finite tutte in disgrazia!

In seguito la situazione è diventata ancora più complicata… le prime bellissime ville costruite sull’isola erano di proprietà di politici o faccendieri italiani, quasi tutti coinvolti nelle indagini di Mani Pulite alla fine degli anni ottanta.

Cavallo divenne quasi un rifugio per molti, la bellezza speciale dell’isola distoglie lo sguardo da chi la abita per concentrarne l’attenzione sulle bellezze naturali che Dio ci offre…!

A quei tempi avevo una piccola barca con due cabine e mi sono lasciato convincere ad acquistare un posto barca nel piccolo porto in costruzione… il porto non è mai stato completato ma quei pochi metri quadrati di mare che avevo comprato mi rendevano felice…

Ogni anno ho trascorso il mese di agosto con la famiglia, accampati nella piccola barca… quella banchina in legno posata su quel lembo di mare, fra gli scogli levigati dalle acque e dai venti, ha visto crescere i miei bambini… Daniele e Robin hanno imparato a nuotare in queste paradisiache piscine naturali! Rachele è cresciuta ed è diventata una signorina fra le bellezze naturali di quest’isola…

Cavallo è l’isola della libertà, puoi lasciare i tuoi ragazzi scorrazzare per l’isola con tanti amici della stessa età… sull’isola possono circolare soltanto piccole auto elettriche che i ragazzi, anche se non dovrebbero, usano per scorrazzare in lungo e in largo… guidano queste macchinine da golf come se fossero delle Ferrari!

Un’isola che ti fa dimenticare i problemi quotidiani, lontano da televisione e politica… Cavallo è un’isola magica!
